📰 Delivery Update: Another Snowy Delay! ❄️

Well, it seems Mother Nature has a sense of humor—two snowstorms, hitting on the same day, two weeks in a row! Due to the severe weather and several post office closures, some newspaper deliveries will be delayed this week.

🌨️ Deliveries in affected areas will resume as soon as post offices reopen and it’s safe for drivers to be on the roads.

Fairgrounds Festival of Lights to be bright opening weekend

The holiday season kicks off today with the 20th anniversary of the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights. This tradition, hosted at the Hamburg Fairgrounds, promises festive fun and magical moments for all ages.
The gates of the Festival will open at 5 p.m. The drive-through entrance is located off of McKinley Parkway (the entrance closest to Clark Street). The walk-through entrance is located next to the Event Center at 5820 South Park Ave. The Festival gates will welcome guests from 5 to 9 p.m., with buildings and grounds remaining open until 10 p.m.
Opening weekend highlights:
Friday, Nov. 29 - Tree Lighting Ceremony (Full Experience Night). Celebrate the Festival’s opening night with an official tree lighting ceremony in the walk-around portion of the Festival at the 76-foot-tall tree. The event will include remarks, special guests and a fireworks display by Skylighters of New York at 6:15 p.m. Festivities will also feature seasonal music performed by third through eighth graders from Our Lady of Victory Elementary School Choir, and a celebratory “Cheers to 20 Years” toast with Upstate Farms Egg Nog.
Saturday, Nov. 30 (Full Experience Night). Enjoy the complete Festival experience featuring both the drive-thru of light displays and walk-around attractions along 42nd Street – including over 100 things to see and do.
Sunday, Dec. 1 - 20th Anniversary Discount Night (Full Experience Night). To commemorate two decades of holiday cheer, Sunday night only will feature a discounted Full Experience ticket for just $20 per carload (fees included). Tickets are available exclusively at www.FairgroundsHoliday.com. Full Experience dates continue through Dec. 23, and Drive-Thru dates through Dec. 30.

After 117 years, the Measer family is passing their legacy of Bee Group Newspapers to Sample News Group. Trey Measer is set to retire after 52+ years. Sample News Group, known for its commitment to community journalism, will carry on Bee Group’s tradition of local news in Western New York. The transition, set for December 2, marks a new chapter in the Bee’s deep-rooted community presence.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Buffalo Branch will hold a Post-Election Reflections talk with speakers Lee Coppola and Robert J. McCarthy on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Northwest Amherst Community Center, 220 Northpointe Parkway, Amherst. Registration and social time is from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and the program is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Coppola, a veteran newspaperman, television investigative reporter and federal prosecutor, retired in August 2011 after serving for 15 years as the first dean of the Russell J. Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University.
Robert J. McCarthy is a political analyst for WKBW-TV. He has covered all the major elections in New York state and WNY since 1992, including 14 national conventions.
Register in advance with your name, phone number and email address, along with a check for $10 per person made out to “AAUW Buffalo,” and sent to AAUW Buffalo, P.O. Box 894, Buffalo, NY 14225. Registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 11.

Sumitomo Rubber USA to close in Tonawanda
According to a press release received by the Ken-Ton Bee, Sumitomo Rubber USA, LLC (SRUSA), a Tonawanda-based manufacturer of automotive tires for passenger cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles, today annouced its plans to close its manufacturing facility in Tonawanda. The closure follows an extended examination of the viability of the facility.
Approximately 1,550 hourly (union) and salaried (non-union) employees will be impacted by the announcement and have been formally notied of the decision. All tire production at the Tonawanda facility will cease, effective immediately, with related wind-down activities expected to conclude over the next 12-24 months.
