(This was streamed live earlier today).
My heart is broken and grieving with the Thomas family and the Magruder community after last week's tragic events.
I'm speaking today to help create a public space where other parents can connect in order to heal, learn, and collaborate with hard-working county and school staff who care for our children every day.
I'm the parent of two children in Montgomery County Public Schools, and husband to a MCPS teacher. I've been a social worker for 20 years and run two private psychotherapy clinics specializing in trauma recovery and relationships, and I host The Soul of Life psychology and spirituality podcast.
Bring Love Alive: Learn Vital Relationship and Mindfulness Skills
20-year relationship therapist and author Keith Miller shares a one-hour presentation about the power of vital relationship and mindfulness skills, plus:
- Learn the #1 reason relationships succeed
- How to communicate clearly and with heart
- How to use mindfulness to stay centered when your partner is off-balance
Live IFS Meditation: How to Tame Your Inner Critic and Inner Procrastinator
If part of your mental activity is self-critical thoughts, you have an "inner critic." IFS teaches that when we respond curiously to problematic parts of our psyche, they can unburden pain that caused them operate in roles outside their ideal purpose.
What does that mean?
Rather than harassing, berating, and triggering procrastination, the Critic voice can tell you what it's afraid of, unlocking a door to self-compassion, courage, creativity, and clarity.
Join me today at 12pm, Eastern Standard Time, to practice the first steps toward an inner journey that can truly transform your life.

More Information About IFS
IFS, or Internal Family Systems Therapy, is an evidence-based psychotherapy based on an appreciative inquiry process of the mind's "natural multiplicity." While IFS is endorsed by leading trauma recovery professionals as one of the most effective and comprehensive psychotherapies to heal from trauma, it's also easily adapted to everyday stressors and life challenges and is an excellent way to develop emotional intelligence.
Disarming Your Inner Critic: Free IFS Lesson and Guided Meditation
Join me every Friday at Noon for a brief Internal Family Systems lesson and 15-minute centering meditation led by IFS practitioner and master therapist Keith Miller, to learn how to make sense of your inner life and benefit from mindfulness-based stress reduction practice.
- 10-minute introduction and Short Overview of one IFS concept
- 15-minute guided “Orchestra Conductor” meditation
- 5-minute Q&A about healing through “parts work”
- After event, continue chat and Q&A with Keith for 30 min on FB
Unlike typical meditation instruction which helpfully pivots around triggering the body’s relaxation response by learning to detach, surrender, and let go of conscious mental activity, this IFS-informed meditation will teach you how to become an orchestra conductor of your mental and physical activity. You will learn how to respond to each part of your psyche uniquely, unlocking your brain’s potential to be highly curious, courageous, and creative while feeling calmer, clearer and more compassionate.
This is for you if you:
• Find yourself stuck in anxious or negative thoughts and want to feel more calm
• Feel hijacked by emotional triggers in your life or in the news and just want to be yourself more
• Have considered or tried meditation but don’t think it really works for you
• Already benefit from a “sitting” mindfulness practice but want to resolve inner emotional conflicts and understand complex behavioral patterns
• Want a spiritual practice in your life but are skeptical of religious teaching or spiritualizing
• Have a strong religious faith but want to put this faith into meaningful practice to overcome constraining behaviors or thoughts
