During the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, military aircraft sprayed more than one million gallons of a chemical dispersant called Corexit on the Gulf of Mexico. Coastal residents — primarily fishermen who could no longer fish due to the spill — were also hired by BP as part of the clean-up effort. As Corexit efforts ramped up, clean-up workers were laid off and told the fishing grounds were safe –- but what they saw with their own eyes told a different story.
