William Nelson (Dancer)

William Nelson is a current student at Long Island University who was raised in Fort Myers, Florida, and has an immense passion for dancing and biomechanics as a whole. He is currently playing Richie in A Chorus Line at Laguna Playhouse and is loving performing. His favorite styles include hip hop, contemporary, modern, and jazz. He would also like to remind everyone to spread art, not war and that is real!

Lola Volkmar (Dancer)

Lola Volkmar is a 19 year old performer located in both Long Island, New York, and Dallas, Texas. Lola has been dancing for 10 years in numerous styles. Styles include, but are not limited to ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, and cirque! Lola has also has the pleasure of serving as dance captain and choreographing for multiple musicals, as well as serving as a principal dancer for the Turner Dance Fusion Team. Lola is currently a BFA dance major at LIU Post and part of the Post Concert Dance Company (PCDC) under the direction of Fritzlyn Hector. Lola had the opportunity to perform with PCDC in a guest choreographer show ‘Expressions’ featuring world from George Sanders, Jason Herbert, and many others, Dance challenges the social norm. It gives the hopeless hope. Opening minds, opening hearts, giving insight, offering understanding, and demonstrating empathy are all aspects of dance Lola loves.

Sara Miyamoto (Dancer)

Sara Miyamoto is very excited for this process and to witness this company grow. She has been dancing for seven years in various dance styles but is most drawn to Pas de Deux. She was most recently a part of Post Theatre Company’s production of Head Over Heels (Ensemble), as well as Emerging Student Theatre Artists’ Cabaret Celebrating Artists of Color, and Into the Woods (Cinderella).`

Brecken Hummer (Director of Photography & Cinematography/Cinematographer )

Brecken is a director, cinematographer, screenwriter, filmmaker, and performer based in the NYC area. He is currently pursuing his BFA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Musical Theatre at Long Island University Post. He is currently a Scenic Intern at New London Barn Playhouse for the summer. He began his training in choral music and theatre as a child and is now working in the real world! Some of his performance credits include “Crathan” in Dogs of Peace, “Demetrius” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Matt Galloway” in The Laramie Project, Baker in Into the Woods, and more. His most recent cinematography and directing credits include Camera Operator for a filmed production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Co-Director of The Addams Family and Director of a non-formal educational production of Octet. He has also started writing many plays, as well as a television series and a feature film that he hopes to put into production at some point in the near future.

Chloe Caustrita (Artistic Director/Choreographer)

Chloe is a choreographer, performer, and filmmaker based in the NYC area. She began her formal training in dance when she was a child, training at Inland Pacific Ballet Academy. She then moved over to training in Musical Theatre, in which she is currently pursuing a degree in at Long Island University Post. She is currently a Patron Management Associate at New London Barn Playhouse for the summer.

Chloe also has a deep passion for psychology and is very interested in learning about the human condition during her spare time. When the idea of starting this company came to her over a year and a half ago, she was very inspired by what she has learned so far about the human condition, and she thought it would be an amazing experience to merge it with her passion for dance. She struggled to find a name that she believed truly represented what the company stood for. One day she was scrolling through Instagram when she passed by one of her favorite YouTuber’s engagement post, Indy Blue. She had a ring that was called the Toi et Moi ring. Then it clicked for her. You and me. That is exactly the whole point of this company. And here we are now.

Chloe really wants to create a community with this company and hopes that everyone will stay along for the rollercoaster of a ride we are about to go on.

Hello world! If you are brand new here, welcome! We are Toi et Moi, a new dance film company based in New York City. Our films will be exploring the meaning of human connection and the human condition through movement.

The pseudo-scientific formula that explains most human connection is time + affection + togetherness = relationship. For the past two years, the world has been faced with the COVID-19 pandemic. This has taken away/decreased two of those key elements: time and togetherness. What impact does this have on the human condition, whether that is short term or long term? What happens when those key elements return and individuals are reunited with their loved ones?

That is the general inspiration for our company’s films. Each individual film will have a more specified inspiration that will be included with each release. We are hoping to release one film by the end of this summer, and will be working on another one this fall, that we are hoping to release by the end of the winter. Films take a while to produce, whether that is pre-production, production, or post-production. As it will be a bit of time before our first film is released, we appreciate your patience, and hope that you stick along for the ride. Our biggest goal is to get the first film out as soon as possible so that our stories can start to be shared around the world. Thank you everyone for your support and we will see you soon! Our next few posts will be introducing our team and some of our dancers so stay tuned for those!
