JUST IN | The PUP CCIS Student Council and Second Year Representatives have successfully filed a demand paper requesting major modifications for the upcoming departmental examinations. The 5-point demands consist of cancellation of exams, tagging all IT and CS professors, comprehensive guidelines, separate exam periods, and financial transparency. Tomorrow at 11:00 AM, a dialogue request is scheduled in the PUP CCIS Administration, the Office of the President, and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The movement gains momentum with and trending on social media, reflecting the solidarity and determination of the student leaders.

#𝙉𝙖𝙜𝙠𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜𝘾𝘾𝙄𝙎 𝙐𝙉𝙄𝙏𝙔 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙈𝙀𝙉𝙏 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙋𝙐𝙋 𝘽𝙐𝘿𝙂𝙀𝙏 𝙁𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏 𝙄𝙉𝘾𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙎𝙀!
Our right to education is our constitutional right, but with the continuous negligence from the government, our right to education became a privilege. From the relentless annual budget cuts, commercialization, privatization, and imposition of repressive anti-student policies, the government had left thousands of Iskolar ng Bayan and Teknolohista ng Bayan in the dark. Despite the severe material conditions faced by the thousands of Iskolar ng Bayan, we continue to persevere and struggle for a nationalist, scientific, and mass-oriented education that caters to our rights and well-being.
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines is the largest state university in the Philippines in terms of population. Our Sintang Paaralan caters to over 80,000 students across PUP's branches and campuses. Despite the humongous population, the Sintang Paaralan still suffers severe underfunding and neglect from the state. The lack of funding manifests in the Sintang Paaralan's lack of facilities, pieces of equipment, classrooms, electricity, and teaching staff. Also, the worsening budget cuts manifested in limited slots to accommodate more Filipino scholars and fewer slots for the students' desired programs and specializations, leading to a lower quality of education.
This systematic negligence by the government puts additional weight on the student body and the parents of thousands of Iskolar ng Bayan by worsening the financial burden. In the College of Computer and Information Sciences alone, the students are forced to compromise to the unfortunate situation in our college. The Teknolohista ng Bayan shoulder the cost of attaining learning materials such as desktops or laptops, internet connectivity, transport costs, and printing costs while experiencing an economic crisis that forced many students and Teknolohista ng Bayan to work to continue their studies and provide for their families and themselves.
The continued self-sacrifice made by the students is a manifestation of a failing colonized, commercialized, and repressive education system in the Philippines. It is a testimony that our education system is rigged to profit from our suffering and oppression. We believe that it is high time that the government recognizes our perseverance, excellence, and collective woes and calls for a higher budget and state subsidy. The students cannot achieve quality and accessible education if we are trapped within a system that pits students against students; we cannot survive within an education system that caters only to profit and not the well-being of the studentry.
The , composed of the CCIS Student Council together with CCIS Organizations and student publications, take a stand to join the PUP Budget Increase Alliance (PUP BIA) to campaign for more budget and state subsidies for Sintang Paaralan. The campaign for a higher budget and state subsidy shall be the stepping stone to achieving a nationalist, scientific, and accessible education system contrary to the prevalent colonized, commercialized, and repressive education system that plagues millions of Filipino youth.
We stress that education is a right and should be accessible to all Filipinos regardless of their socio-economic condition. We believe that the current neo-liberal education that pits students against students and students against educators must come to an end.
We firmly stress that our right to education must come with an education system that nourishes the students by creating opportunities to pursue their passion without financial considerations. We want an education system that is quality, accessible to all, and catalyzes change in our society in service to the people.
We encourage the CCIS Community, the whole PUP Community, and the public to clamor and take action online or on the streets. Now is the time to unite and assert our right to free, quality, and accessible education!

In a recent development, we would like to inform all students of PUP Sta. Mesa that there has been a power outage affecting the 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 (Main Building) as well as the 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. As a result, all classes scheduled in these areas have will temporarily shift to online.
