THE OLUMO ROCK IN EGBA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA 🇳🇬

Any trip to Abeokuta would be incomplete without a stop at Olumo Rock, the city’s “fortress.” It’s no surprise that this rock sits in Abeokuta, as the name?Abeokuta? means?under the rock,? and the city has long been a popular tourist destination in Nigeria. Since the 19th century, Olumo Rock has acted as a fortification and a rock of offense for the people of Egba Land. Natural tunnels, peculiar trees, natural cantilevers, gardens on the rock, broken walkways, memorials to the religious system of the rock’s primeval settlers, and other attractions may be found at Olumo Rock. You don’t want to miss out on these sights, do you?

Supreme Court reverses Nnamdi Kanu’s acquittal

The Supreme Court has reversed the decision of the Court of Appeal discharging and acquittal of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on the case of treason against him.

The apex court held that although he was illegally brought back to Nigeria from Kenya when he jumped bail, that development could not have divested the trial court of the jurisdiction to continue his trial.

This is George Stinney Jr he was falsely
convicted and murdered by the U.S at only 14.
He was accused of killing two white girls, Betty of 11-years-old and Mary of 7, the bodies were found near the house where the boy resided with his parents.

Before the ex*****on, George spent 81 days in prison without being able to see his parents, he was held in solitary 80 miles from the city, he was held alone without anybody to talk to. He was heard alone without the presence of his parents or a lawyer.

At that time, all the jurors were white. The trial lasted only 2 hours and the sentence was handed down 10 minutes later. The boy's parents were not allowed in the court room, and was subsequently expelled from that city after the trial.

During his trial, until the day of his ex*****on, he always carried a Bible in his hands, claiming for innocence. He was too short for the electric chair so they used the Bible he was carrying as a booster seat. He was electrocuted with 5,380 volts in the head.

70 years later, his innocence was finally proven by a judge in South Carolina. The beam with which the two girls were killed, weighed more than 19.07 kilograms. Therefore, it was impossible for Stinney to be able to lift it, let alone be able to hit hard enough to kill them.

'The Green Mile' movie by Stephen King was inspired by the same case.

‘I Was Exhausted, Diagnosed With Malaria,’ Akpabio Speaks On Slump Rumour

Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Friday clarified that he was exhausted and diagnosed with malaria following reports that he collapsed at his 61st birthday colloquium held Thursday in Abuja.

Akpabio was reported to have slumped after the event while seeing President Bola Tinubu off at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and was rushed to the hospital.

Addressing reporters on Friday at the Senate, Akpabio, who did not confirm whether he slumped or not, said he had malaria, worsened by stress.

He said, “What eventually happened after the event was a show of humanity. I went home and I called my doctors and I was assured that I have malaria, mingled with stress, which could also be described in another way as exhaustion.

“In fact, anybody could be exhausted. Please, drink water daily so that you don’t get exhausted.”

“This is to say that the work goes on. I want to assure Nigerians that the National Assembly is intact and we are still going on with our duty, our appropriation.

“We will resume on 20th December. But before then, the various committees must have finished their work to enable us meet the target to pass the budget before the end of the year for the president to append his signature.”

Again, high price of food pushes inflation rate to 28.20%

The increasing prices of food items in Nigeria have contributed to the rising inflation rate in November, which increased to 28.20 per cent from the 27.33 per cent recorded in October, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed on Friday.

Looking at the movement, the November 2023 headline inflation rate showed an increase of 0.87 per cent points when compared to the October 2023 headline inflation rate.

The NBS said, “In November 2023, the headline inflation rate increased to 28.20% relative to the October 2023 headline inflation rate, which was 27.33%.”

On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 6.73 per cent higher compared to the rate recorded in November 2022, which was 21.47 per cent.

This shows that the headline inflation rate, on a year-on-year basis, increased in November 2023 when compared to the same month in the preceding year, November 2022.

Furthermore, on a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate in November 2023 was 2.09 per cent, which was 0.35 per cent higher than the 1.73 per cent recorded in October 2023.

This means that in November 2023, the rate of increase in the average price level will be higher than the rate of increase in the average price level in October 2023.

According to the NBS, “the percentage change in the average CPI for the twelve months ending November 2023 over the average of the CPI for the previous twelve-month period was 24.01%, showing a 5.64% increase compared to 18.37% recorded in November 2022.”.

On a year-on-year basis, in November 2023, the urban inflation rate was 30.21 per cent; this is 8.13 per cent higher compared to the 22.09 per cent recorded in November 2022.

On a month-on-month basis, the urban inflation rate was 2.23 per cent in November 2023, representing a 0.41 per increase compared to 1.81 per cent in October 2023.

The corresponding twelve-month average for the urban inflation rate was 25.45 percent in November 2023, 6.56 per cent higher compared to the 18.90 percent reported in November 2022.

The rural inflation rate in November 2023 was 26.43 percent on a year-on-year basis; this is 5.55 percent higher compared to the 20.88 percent recorded in November 2022.

On a month-on-month basis, the rural inflation rate in November 2023 was 1.99 percent, up by 0.31 percent points compared to 1.67 percent in October 2023.

The corresponding twelve-month average for the Rural inflation rate in November 2023 was 22.71 percent, representing 4.83 percent points higher compared to the
17.88 percent was recorded in November 2022.

The NBS said, “The food inflation rate in November 2023 was 32.84 percent on a year-on-year basis, which was 8.72 percent higher compared to the 24.13 percent recorded in November 2022.

“The rise in food inflation on a year-on-year basis was caused by increases in prices of bread and cereals, oil and fat, potatoes, yam and other tubers, fish, fruit, meat, vegetables, coffee, tea, and cocoa.

“On a month-on-month basis, the food inflation rate in November 2023 was 2.42 percent. This was 0.51 percent higher compared to the 1.91 percent recorded in October 2023.

“The rise in food inflation on a month-on-month basis was caused by a rise in the rate of increase in the average prices of bread and cereals, oil and fat, meat, coffee, tea, cocoa, potatoes, yam, and other tubers.

“The average annual rate of food inflation for the twelve months ending November 2023 over the previous twelve-month average was 27.09%, which was a 6.68% point increase from the average annual rate of 20.41 percent change recorded in November 2022.”

Supreme Court insists Nnamdi Kanu must face trial; overturns Appeal Court judgement which dismissed the charges.

The Supreme Court, on Friday, Dec. 15, nullified the judgment of the Court of Appeal that ordered the Federal Government to release the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, from detention.

The apex court upheld the appeal by the federal government, challenging the Court of Appeal decision, which ordered Kanu’s release.

The apex court ordered Kanu to return to the Federal High Court, Abuja, to face his seven-count of terrorism.
