Bangladesh fans are unlikely to watch the Tigers cricket series against West Indies as no TV channels from this country get the broadcasting rights of this tour as of now.

The host board basically sells the broadcasting rights and in the West Indies, this is done through a third party named Total Sports Marketing (TSM). So far no local TV channel has bought the broadcasting rights from this TSM.

Since the rights are in the hands of a third party, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has nothing to do here officially, said BCB media committee chairman Tanvir Ahmed Titu.

"Actually, when we go out of the country to play a series, it all depends on the boards of that country and their broadcasters," Tanvir Titu said in Dhaka today.

"The BCB has no control here. We can only request the concerned board to broadcast the matches in our country. Apart from that, we don't have to do anything officially."

Tanvir hopes that any local TV channel will make arrangements for fans to watch the game. | Via. Bengal Newz Bangladesh

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Monday urged Kolkata's IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to have more players from the state.

In the past many from West Bengal, including the former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Manoj Tiwary, Wriddhiman Saha, Shreevats Goswami and Mohammed Shami played in the purple colours.

But it's been a long time since a player from West Bengal represented the two-time former champions in the IPL.

"We would love to see more Bengal players in KKR. I had raised the issue of reviving the catchment area concept in IPL in BCCI," Avishek Dalmiya said on the sidelines of the inter-school KMC Mayor's Cup final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

St. James' School, Kolkata defeated Nava Nalanda High School by eight wickets to win the tournament involving 32 school teams.

"We are giving utmost importance to this meet because we want more players to come through the ranks and sons of soil to make up for the Bengal team. The Cricket Talent Search Committee will also look into these young talents."

The tournament returned after a two-year gap following the Covid-19 pandemic.

KKR are one of the sponsors of the meet and Avishek said: "We can hope to see junior knights from these players. The money given by them will be utilised for the development of budding cricketers." | Via. Bengal Newz West Bengal

Sudden nor'wester, or 'Kalbaisakhi' as it is known in Bangla, hit Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday evening.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed Kolkata on Saturday, breaking the glass of the press box of the Eden Gardens. The cover laid on the ground also flew away, which made the ground wet.

This 'Kalbaisakhi' can disturb the qualifier-1 and eliminator matches of IPL to be held on 24th and 25th May at Eden Gardens Stadium. It has been raining with strong winds for the last few days in various districts of Bengal including Kolkata, which is forecast to continue for the next few days. Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI to Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) are worried about this.

As soon as the nor'wester's information was received, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly reached the stadium soon after the storm stopped and inspected the damage caused by the storm. He directed the CAB officials to repair the press box immediately.

It is worth noting that at this time Kal Baisakhi is fully active in Bengal. Due to its effect, it rains with thunderstorms.

IPL matches are going to be held in Eden Gardens after three years and for the first time since the Corona era, the stadium will be completely filled with spectators. All tickets for the match are already sold out.

Two playoff matches of IPL 2022 will be played in Kolkata. In this, the first qualifier match will be played between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals on 24 May. This will be followed by the Eliminator match on 25 May in which Lucknow Super Giants will face either Delhi or RCB which will reach the playoffs. After this, the other two play-off matches will be played in Ahmedabad, which includes two qualifiers and final matches. The second qualifier match will be played on 27 May at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while the final match will be played on 29 May.

In an unprecedented incident, Services' wrestler Satender Malik launched a physical assault on referee Jagbir Singh after losing the 125kg final during the Commonwealth Games trials, prompting the national federation to impose a life ban on him, on Tuesday.

The Air Force wrestler was leading 3-0 with just a 18 seconds left in the deciding bout when Mohit effected a 'take-down' move and also pushed Satender out of the mat for another point.

However, referee Virender Malik did not award two points to Mohit for the 'takedown' move and gave only one point for the pushout.

The decision upset Mohit, who requested for a challenge.

Satyadev Malik, the jury for the bout, excused himself from the decision for the sake of impartiality, since he belonged to the Mokhra village from where Satender also comes.

Senior referee Jagbir Singh was requested to look into the challenge and with the help of TV replays, he ruled that Mohit should be given three points.

The score became 3-3 and remained like that till the end, and eventually Mohit was declared winner on criteria since he had scored the last point of the bout.

Satender lost his cool, walked across to Mat A where Ravi Dahiya and Aman were locked in the 57kg final, went straight to Jagbir, and began to assault him.

He first abused Jagbir and then slapped him, who lost his balance and fell on the ground.

The 57kg bout was stopped as the incident created a furore inside the KD Jadhav hall at the IG stadium. Hundreds of fans, officials and participants were shocked to witness a scene like that.

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) officials managed to send Satender out of the hall and restarted the bout. Everything was happening right before the eyes of WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was sitting on the dias.

"We have imposed life ban on Satender Malik. The decision was taken by WFI President," WFI's assistant secretary Vinod Tomar told PTI.

"The referees officiating that bout will also be called for an explanation that why points were not awarded to Mohit when it was clear that the take-down move was clean. Why did they let the situation go out of hand."

A visibly shaken Jagbir Singh said, "I had no inkling that he would do something like that."

A Class One referee since 2013, Jagbir added, "I had nothing to do with this bout. I had officiated the 97kg and 65kg finals and gave the ruling only after I was asked to do it."

"It's up to WFI what action it wants to take against him."

Satyadev Malik told PTI, "I wanted to stay away from the decision making since we live close by. In international wrestling also, if the wrestler is from India, a jury from India can't officiate that bout."

"So to avoid any situation where I am accused of bias, I stayed away. This is really unexpected because Satender is usually a very calm guy," Satyadev, who was also jury of appeal for the tournament, said. (PTI)

Andrew Symonds, the former Australia all-rounder, has passed away following a car crash near the outskirts of the city of Townsville, Queensland on Sunday. He was 46 and is survived by wife Laura and two young children, Chloe and Billy. Symonds, one of the greatest all-rounders to represent the country, played 26 Tests, 198 ODIs and 14 T20Is for Australia and was a two-time World Cup winner.

"Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled," a statement issued by the Police read. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating."

According to a report in NewsCorp, Symonds' family issued a statement "confirming his passing, and appreciated peoples' sympathy and best wishes, and asked that their privacy be respected".

Symonds, lovingly known as 'Roy', made his Australia debut in 1998, during an ODI against Pakistan and it was in the 50-overs setup that the dynamic all-rounder would prove his mettle. In nearly 200 ODIs, Symonds scored over 5000 runs at an average of 39.75 while batting in the middle order, including six hundreds and 30 half-centuries and also took 133 wickets. A big-hitting batter, a witty bowler and a spotless fielder, Symonds was one of the top all-rounders of his era. While he was always full of promise, it was during the 2003 World Cup that Symonds really burst onto the scene, scoring a match-winning 143 against Pakistan. While Symonds' Test career did not touch the highs of his ODI achievements, he scored 1462 runs with two centuries and 10 fifties.

Post retirement from cricket in February of 2012, Symonds ventured in sports commentary and broadcasting and became a renowned figure for Fox Sports. Legendary former Australia captain Allan Border paid tribute to Symonds, highlighting what made his different from the rest.

"He hit the ball a long way and just wanted to entertain. He was, in a way, a little bit of an old-fashioned cricketer, former Test captain and Fox Sports," colleague Allan Border told the Nine Network.

"He was an adventurer. Loved his fishing, he loved hiking, camping. People liked his very laid-back style. He lived in Townsville. When I spoke to him, I think he still had a hundred head of cattle he used to muster. Symo away from the cameras and away from the spotlight, loved, I think, a bit of solitude and that is why he loved his fishing. Loved his own time."

While Symonds was an asset on the field, he too had his fair share of controversies off it. During Australia's 2005 tour of England, Symonds was dropped for two ODIs after he showed up for a match against Bangladesh under the influence of alcohol. Three years later in 2008, Symonds was sent back home from Australia's ODI series against Bangladesh after he missed a team-meeting to go fishing. The following year in 2009, Symonds, due to disciplinary reasons, was once again asked to go home from the T20 World Cup in England, effectively ending his ODI career.

But that doesn't undermine some Symonds' finest achievements. He held the record for the joint-most sixes in a County Championship innings - 16 for Gloucestershire against Glamorgan in 1995. The record stood tall for 27 years before England's Ben Stokes battered in earlier this month. Symonds made an impact in the IPL too, as only six days into the first season, representing the Deccan Chargers, he smashed 117 not out off 53 balls against Rajasthan Royals. Symonds was part of the IPL until 2011, playing 39 matches, scoring 974 runs and grabbing 20 wickets. His last representation for an IPL franchise was for the Mumbai Indians, where he played alongside India legends Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh.

Symonds is the third former Australia cricketer to have lost his life this year. In March, it were Rod Marsh's passing at the age of 74 and Shane Warne's shock death at 52 that had sent the Australian cricket fraternity in mourning. 📸 File Getty Images | Via. Bengal Newz World

⚡ Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) slaps two-year ban to journalist Boria Majumdar for intimidating Wriddhiman Saha.

A centrally-contracted player, Wriddhiman had shared a screenshot of messages and posted a series of tweets on 23 February, which showed an unnamed journalist threatening him for an interview, who happened to be Boria Majumdar. The journalist, in his defence, had earlier claimed that Wriddhiman had 'doctored' the WhatsApp screenshots of the chats between them before sharing it online.

The Cricket governing body had then formed a three-member panel comprising vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal and Apex Council member Prabhtej Bhatia to probe Wriddhiman Saha's allegation. Both parties also appeared before the BCCI Apex Committee last month and presented their respective versions.

◼️ The two year ban against Boria Majumdar include:

● Banned from getting accreditation as a member of the press in any match (domestic or international) in India.

● Banned from getting any interviews with registered Cricket players in India.

● Banned from access to any of BCCI or member association-owned cricket facilities. | Breaking Via. The Bengal Newz

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Rohit Sharma the captain for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The Indian opener has already been leading the side in the limited-overs format and chief selector Chetan Sharma insisted that Rohit will lead the Test team whenever he is fit and is not recommended for rest by the medical staff.

Rohit was named the skipper following the resignation of Virat Kohli as captain in the longest format last month. The 33-year-old had stepped down as Test captain following a series loss on the tour of South Africa.

Rohit, meanwhile, will be making a return to Tests after over five months, having last donned the whites in September during the away series in England. He was included in the Test side for the South Africa tour but was forced to miss the series due to a hamstring injury.

The Indian opener had made a bright start to his full-time captaincy role in limited-overs, securing a 3-0 clean sweep win against New Zealand in November. Earlier this month, Rohit led the side to another clean-sweep series victory in ODIs against the West Indies. | Via. Bengal Newz India

The stand eventually ended on 70 as Ripon Mondol dismissed Raghuvanshi on 44. On his next delivery, he sent the other well-set batter in Rasheed (26). Ripon Mondol then got two more, dismissing Siddarth Yadav on 6 and Raj Bawa for a duck. Eventually, Dhull remained unbeaten on 20 to take India Under-19 cricket team over the line in 30.5 overs.

Then, he got rid of Iftakher Hossain Ifti on 1 followed by Prantik Nabil on 7. Then, Ariful Islam and Aich Mollah stitched a 23-run stand, and just when they looked settled, Vicky Ostwal dismissed the former on 9 and the MD Fahim on 0 to leave Bangladesh U-19 down. SM Meherob (30) and Ashiqur Zaman (16) put on 50 runs for the next wicket but once Angkrish Raghuvanshi picked up Meherob, Bangladesh lost the next two wickets quickly and were skittled for 111 in 37.1 overs. | Via.
