The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested a BJP Sarpanch for allegedly ra**ng a girl in Budgam District.
Sources said that a girl was allegedly r***d by a BJP Sarpanch under the jurisdiction of Beerwah Police Station in Budgam District.
A written complaint was moved by the father of the victim and during the course of investigation, statements of the victim and other witnesses were recorded under the relevant provisions of the law.
Subsequently, the accused Sarpanch identified as Mohammad Yousuf Ganie, who was absconding, was arrested. 'An FIR has been registered against the accused at the local Police Station,' sources said. (IANS)

Citing fear of "possible attack" on her, Sharma sent an email seeking four weeks' time for her appearance, an officer at Narkeldanga Police Station have said on Monday.
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Modi Government's 'Agnipath Scheme', alleging that the Government has quashed the century-old selection process for the Armed Forces which is contrary to the constitutional provisions and without having Parliamentary approval.
"Contrary to the constitutional provisions and without having approval in Parliament and without any Gazette notification, the respondent (Centre) quashed century-old army selection process and imposed impugned Agniveer-22 'Scheme' in the country... and declared to start it from 24 June," Advocate Manohar Lal Sharma said in his plea.
He also termed the scheme "illegal" and "unconstitutional" and sought a direction from the Court to quash the 14 June press note issued by the Ministry of Defence.
Former BJP Union Minister Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday morning posted a tweet that could intensify the speculation of him being considered as the opposition's candidate for the 18 July presidential election. "I am grateful to Mamata Ji for the honour and prestige she bestowed on me in the TMC. Now a time has come when for a larger national cause I must step aside from the party to work for greater opposition unity. I am sure she approves of the step," he tweeted.

The Modi Government on Tuesday announced the 'Agnipath Scheme' for four-year contractual military recruitment that has sparked protests in many parts of the country and is being questioned by many parties. The soldiers to be recruited under this plan will be called Agniveers.
A video of his statement went viral on social media platforms. Several other social media users also slammed Vijayvargiya for his statement.
K K Mishra, Chairman of the Media Department of Madhya Pradesh Congress, also criticised Vijayvargiya for the statement.
"Agniveers, who will be recruited (in the Armed Forces) only for four years, will be later appointed as security guards at the BJP office. This is a big insult of the unemployed youth and the valour of the armed forces. BJP should apologise," he said in a tweet.

Calcutta High Court'S Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who ordered CBI probes in many WB Govt's irregularities 'fed up' with agency!
"I'm tired. I'm fed up with the activities of the CBI. Now I am in a dilemma whether the investigations will yield any fruitful result," the Judge said in open Court while talking to senior Advocate Kalyan Bandyopadhyay, who is also the Trinamool Congress MP from Serampore.
As Kalyan Bandyopadhyay spoke about the CBI's poor track record. "It is a fact. The performance of the CBI is very bad. This court had in 1993 issued a CBI probe order in the Bhikhari Paswan disappearance case. Till date, the CBI has done nothing," the lawyer said.
Paswan, a jute mill worker, had allegedly been picked up from his home in Telenipara, Hooghly, by then CPM Government's Police in 1993 in connection with an agitation at Victoria Jute Mills. He never returned, nor was his body found.

(Watch) A murder case has been registered in Madhya Pradesh after a missing 65-year-old with mental illness was found dead and a video showed a BJP man asking him if his "name is Mohammed" and repeatedly assaulting him as he struggled to answer. The case has been registered in Neemuch District. The attacker in the video has been identified as Dinesh Kushwaha and named the main accused. Kushwaha is the husband of a former BJP corporator. Police said that the elderly man, Bhanwarlal Jain, was from Sarsi in Ratlam District and went missing on 15 May after a visit to a religious event in Rajasthan. Following a missing complaint, Police put out an alert with his photographs. His body was found on a roadside in Neemuch District yesterday. It was handed over to his family and they performed last rites. The family then came to know of the video. The video shows Bhanwarlal Jain sitting on a bench as Kushwaha towers over him. "What's your name? Mohammed?" he asks the elderly man and slaps him across the face. "Tell your name properly, show your Aadhaar card," he adds. The elderly man, visibly petrified, offers money. This infuriates the attacker and he slaps the senior citizen non-stop on his head and ears. The 65-year-old appears to be struggling to understand the situation he is in. He lifts his shirt and a hidden pocket can be seen. He again tries to offer the attacker money as the latter keeps slapping him hard. After the horrifying video emerged, family members of Bhanwarlal Jain reached the Police Station and demanded Kushwaha's immediate arrest. KL Dangi, in-charge of the Police Station where the FIR was filed, said the video was probably shot on Thursday. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said a case has been registered under sections of murder and death by negligence. The Opposition has slammed the ruling BJP after the video surfaced. Locals in Assam's Sivasagar organised an Elephant Racing on Friday on the occasion of Rongali Bihu. Visuals shared by news agency ANI showed people running and recording the race as two elephants sprinted against each other. The celebrations of Rongali Bihu started in Assam on Thursday and will go on till Saturday. The festival marks the beginning of the harvest period and it is also celebrated as Assamese New Year. Many Bihu celebration committees in Guwahati and other parts of the state have organised week-long programmes for Rongali Bihu.
