通用圖書有限公司創立於上世紀六零年代中期，並於1968年註冊正式成立。

最初出版英文課本及錄音語言教材，鑒於當時市面缺乏合適地圖以提供推銷人員於探訪學校時應用，乃立意自行編製。經多年後才能彙集各種資料出版第一張地圖。而第一本地圖冊“香港街道地方指南”則至1977年才編繪成書。初期工作進展不易，後來進入電腦時代，其他產品如“香港街道大廈詳圖”及“香港街道駕駛指南”，以及各種中港地圖等才陸續推出應市。我們的作風是不斷求進，因此產品得蒙廣大用家讚賞，以及各大公司長期選作贈品之用，以致今已成為香港有名的地圖出版專業機構之一。
