What inspired you to write 'Astral X: Savior of Two Worlds'?

I wrote the breakdown of the entire story during a flight from the Philippines back to Hong Kong after visiting my mom's 70th birthday. Living in two different countries felt like inhabiting two separate worlds. This sparked the idea for 'Astral X: Savior of Two Worlds'.

Can you tell us about your writing process?

Writing 'Astral X' was a real challenge (and sometimes a headache!). I set strict deadlines for myself, so I'd often grab a coffee, find a quiet spot with my laptop or iPad, and just start writing.

How did you come up with the title 'Astral X'?

Originally, I wanted to use the title 'Two Worlds'. But that seemed a bit bland. Considering the fusion of technology and non-physical realms in the story, I decided on "Astral X: Savior of Two Worlds". The 'X' in the title symbolizes two paths converging, much like the central theme of the story.

What message or theme do you hope readers take away from your book?

To my readers, I say: immerse yourself in the characters, feel their joys and sorrows, fight their battles, and triumph with them. Not every page may be pleasant, but the next page might hold the best part of your story. Keep turning.

Who is your favorite character in the book and why?

This is a tough one. It's like asking a parent to choose a favorite child! Each character faces their own struggles, making it hard to pick. If I had to, it might be my main antagonist. But really, I love them all.

What was the most challenging part of writing this book?

Managing the story's size was the toughest part. The challenge was fitting it all into a single standalone book. Everything else flowed quite smoothly.

How does the setting of Hong Kong influence the story?

I've always loved Hong Kong—it's my second home. Its rich culture has so much to offer. I hope readers get a sense of this and appreciate the city's unique blend of tradition and modernity.
Are there any hidden meanings or Easter eggs in the book that readers should look out for?

Absolutely! There are hints that lead to future projects. I'm excited for readers to uncover them.

Can you share any interesting behind-the-scenes moments during the writing process?

It's a bit hard to remember specifics after a year and a half of writing, but there were moments when characters surprised me with their responses. Oh, and I had to hold off on bathroom breaks to stay in the writing zone!

What do you hope readers will remember most about 'Astral X'?

I hope readers ask themselves a question: If our technology advances to the level depicted in the book, would they try it? I'm curious to know what they imagine their own 'Astral Companion' would look like.

Are there any upcoming projects or books in the works?

Yes, I have three stories in the pipeline. One follows a boy with a mysterious pentagram mark, leading him on a journey to discover his family's secrets. Another is a massive project I've been working on since 2017, and the last is a tale of an ancient civilization with a unique culture. I'm eager to share them all.

How do you balance writing with other aspects of your life?

It takes preparation and a willingness to make sacrifices in other areas. Having the right support system and an understanding partner is crucial. Planning is key, but remember to prioritize your well-being. Listen to your body.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Start drafting. Take that small step. Remember, you have a story to tell, not to impress others. So, start your storytelling journey. You'll never get good at it until you try.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not writing?

Taking care of my physical and mental well-being is a priority. Whether it's hitting the gym, going for a run, or enjoying a long walk, it's all about balance. I believe a healthy body leads to a clear mind.

If 'Astral X' were to be adapted into a movie, who would you envision playing the main characters?

While I don't see a movie adaptation happening, if it did, I already have some actors in mind. For instance, I think Steven Chow would be a great fit for Xenia's dad. But of course, casting choices are subjective and open to interpretation!
