It is with a very heavy heart that we share with you the devastating news of our dearly loved friend and colleague, Becky, who sadly lost her brave battle with cancer at the end of 2023. We have tried to reach out to as many of those close to her through the GHP network as possible, and we have been extremely moved by all the heartfelt messages that have flooded in for her so far. But of course, she had touched so many lives during her time here that we felt we needed to create this post in her honour. Please feel free to add any further messages in the comments below.
BECKY BANNING
Becky, aka ‘Banning’, aka ‘BB’ was our amazingly hard-working assistant manager who, from day one, made her mark in the role with such passion, energy, and grit. She was quite a force. Immensely sharp and intelligent, her no-nonsense approach to the high volume of projects and the admin duties involved, quickly led her to be crowned the GHP Process Queen. Her love of books shone through in her work, and she quite clearly belonged here in the publishing industry, following on from her earlier career where she worked with her first and foremost love, her animals.
She was also a supportive mentor, both in and out of work, and no matter how busy she was, she always had time to help others, offering smart advice on work-related or personal circumstances - or simply for a natter. Becky knew the answers to everything. She was our chief problem-solver, our oracle, and our utmost ‘go-to’ person. Her undeniable wit, charm and of course, sarcasm, are already greatly missed and we are reminded of her absence daily. She has left a huge hole in our hearts and our business, and it’s hard to believe she’s no longer at the other end of that phone line.
This past month has been a crushing blow to all of us here at the company she loved working for and thrived in. We will endeavour to continue the relationships she built with her many returning authors, all of whom she held in such high regard, and vice-versa.
Of course, Becky wasn’t just a colleague to us, she was a dear friend who we all thought incredibly highly of and genuinely cared for, especially through her health challenges during recent years. Despite her living the farthest afield of the team in Wales, we always looked forward to her visiting her family in Kent, so we could arrange a social get together. Usually, a nice lunch in the sunshine by the sea, washed down with a few vinos and always with her beloved dog, Rio, in tow. He was part of our GHP crew too and often joined us on team Zoom meetings. We loved hearing of Becky’s latest addition to her gang of rescue pets as she never failed to turn any suffering or neglected animal away. Heart of gold and a true inspiration in many ways.
Rest In Peace, dear Becky. You will always remain in our thoughts and our hearts, and your legacy will continue to live on through us here.
Your GHP family xx
