In the first week of the year, Elon Musk sent dozens of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the social network he has owned since 2022, alleging complicity by the UK Labour Party in ongoing child s*xual exploitation by Muslim men.

He has targeted individual British politicians, calling safeguarding minister Jess Phillips a “rape genocide apologist” and claiming prime minister Keir Starmer is responsible for the “rape of Britain”.

This is part of a broader pattern of US and UK far-right extremists weaponising the very real harms done to women and girls, in order to attack democracy, whip up racist hate, and push a genocidal narrative into the mainstream.

Should Europeans help Americans travel for abortions?

OPINION: Here’s how to support our American and European sisters

Every time there’s news about abortion in the US, my notifications start pinging. In 2017 – “Will you start sending money to people in Texas who need abortions?” In 2019 – “Will you start helping people from Alabama travel for abortions?”

The people asking mean well. Like me, they want a world where anyone who needs an abortion can have one, preferably without having to cross state or international lines.

Unlike me, most of these people haven’t spent over 20 years helping people failed by states, laws and healthcare systems have abortions.
