Let's talk money! It is important that our BFI Specialist Courses in Stop Motion Animation or Art Department are financially accessible to all young people aged between 16 - 19.

Both courses run from 10th - 16th February, and during this time, all participants will stay at the YHA Bristol on Bristol Harbourside. At a first glance, a residential course can seem expensive, especially when you factor in travelling to Bristol. However, we have bursary schemes available to cover your travel and course costs. These bursaries are awarded based on your total household income, and you will only pay the full course fee if your household income is £65,850 or more.

Course fees include all costs once you arrive at camp as well as your stay at the YHA Harbourside and all meals for the duration of the course. We don't include travel to camp in these costs but we have a separate bursary scheme for Travel, Child Care and Additional Costs.

It is important that no student, wherever they live or their circumstance, should feel excluded because they can’t afford the costs.

The Art Department and Stop-Motion Animation courses are based in Bristol and you will need to make your own way there at the start of the course. Alongside course costs, you can apply for all or part of your travel costs. Some young people may have caring responsibilities. You can apply for support to cover your childcare or any other costs that would be incurred because you are attending the course.

Stuck on your application? Drop us an email at [email protected] and we'll help you out!

We had an email from a participant who wondered whether coming to camp would count as part of their DofE Award, the answer is YES!

Ready to apply? Head to the website and follow the instructions for the course that you'd like to apply for: https://www.callingtheshots.co.uk/bficamps

There's also a handy FAQ page on our website with lots of helpful information about the course – as well as meal times, bursaries and what we'll get up to every day!: https://www.callingtheshots.co.uk/bfi-camp/bfi-camp-faq

Whether you're applying for the Art Department or the Stop-Motion Animation course, you'll need to fill in the application form and add some examples of your work. Stop-Motion Animation participants may want to attach some examples of their own stop-motion animation work -- have a think and get creative!

But don't worry, you don't have to put anything together JUST for your application! You could attach some coursework, a piece you've made in an art lesson, and some past participants have attached short films they have made with friends. We're looking for your creativity and enthusiasm for a career in film and TV.

🎬BFI Specialist Courses: FAQs🎬

👉 How much does it cost and is there any financial assistance available?

We've just launched our BFI Specialist Courses in Art Department AND Stop Motion Animation. These week-long residential courses take place in Bristol, where you will stay in the YHA in the heart of Bristol City Centre.

💰 The Specialist Courses cost £210 -- this includes all food and accommodation for the week, and participants will have to make their own travel arrangement to get to Bristol.

We do have a generous bursary scheme and many students will get their travel and course costs funded by us.

🛑 Financial assistance is available to any young person who requires support to ensure no one will be deterred from applying for or taking up their place on a residential course. It is subject to you accepting your place on the course and committing to attending all the dates. 🛑

To find out more about the bursary scheme, please take a look at our website, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of the Calling The Shots team should you have any questions.
