Not to blow our own trumpet, but we’re pretty good at telling stories… our clients come back year after year, because we are able to take complex, technical concepts and translate them into engaging content. This could be in the form of an explainer animation, or keynote speech or a whole in-person event. But, how do we do it? Well, Studio Giggle Founder, Steve Garratt, spills the beans in our latest blog!

Our job is to tell your story. But what makes storytelling work? How do we use storytelling correctly to help your brand succeed? Find out here!

Next up in our Favourite project series is Marketing Manager, Amy Hunter's favourite project!

What is your favourite project that you have worked on whilst you’ve been at Giggle?
For me, it's got to be the Game of Thrones Season 9 Finale Premiere that we worked on with the wonderful Bam Bam Productions.

Why is it your favourite?
It was one of the first projects that I worked on at Giggle and I had only been at the company for two months, so I was very novice in everything and I was absolutely terrified of messing up! The event was huge- 7 different events, in 7 locations on one night (Manchester, Dublin, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Cardiff)- no mean feat! We had worked on several of the Game of Thrones premieres, but this was the premiere for the final ever episode, so the stakes were high! We set up a really cool interactive 'Hall of Faces' where fans could have their face scanned when they arrived and then it would appear on the hall throughout the night. It was a great event to be part of!

What was your role on the project?
I ran the London event with some help from some amazing freelancers

Following on in our series of favourite projects, we have Lee Rayner, one of our very talented creative Directors. Lee joined Giggle in 2023 after renting an office in the same building as us for many years!

What is your favourite project that you’ve worked on whilst at Giggle?
My favourite Giggle project was an employee engagement event for GSK, working for the lovely Create Health. It was a challenging baptism by fire just a week or two after I joined, but it was a fantastic project. It allowed me to work across various disciplines, including film, animation, physical set design, theatrical performance, and creative installations. It was a great platform for me and the team to showcase our diverse skill sets in almost every aspect of our work.

Why is it your favourite?
There were so many incredible elements to the project: We had the chance to create a parody film trailer, design the stage for the main plenary, and produce content for the main screens. But beyond that, we also designed immersive spaces for delegates and five immersive breakout sessions featuring actors and theatrical performances.
The cherry on top was designing the evening dinner, which included a circus performance and a pyrotechnic show on the lawns.
And, of course, the client was thrilled, which made it more rewarding!

What was your role on it?
I was the Creative Director for the event, overseeing the overall creative direction, including design, staging, video, animation, music, and performance.

Next up in our favourite projects series is Ed Vosper, one of our talented Technical Artists.

What is your favourite project that you've worked on whilst at Giggle?
Ah man, I’ve been here so long, there are too many to choose from! I would probably choose the Porsche Cayenne Launch in 2018.

Why is it your favourite?
There were a lot of technical and animation challenges, but the end result was fantastic. It was the first projection stage I designed, so it was really exciting to see it all come to life. The project was a lot of fun—there wasn’t a rigid brief, but the focus was on showcasing the design and highlighting key elements.

The client was also a joy to work with. We had access to a 3D model of the new Porsche Cayenne, which allowed us to do some really cool animation reviews.

The turnaround was tight—maybe just two weeks—but with such a great team, it all came together smoothly.

What was your role?
I built the concept for the stage design as well as the animation.

Alongside animation, film and events, did you know that we also regularly work in virtual production? In fact we actually have our own virtual production studio called Distortion Studios. Find out more about it in our blog.

David Lynch has inspired countless creatives, filmmakers, and artists—none more so than our founder and creative director, Steve! After watching Lynch's 'What Did Jack Do?', Steve was inspired to write his own short film, 'Interrogation'. Shot at Distortion Studios a couple of years ago, the film follows Detective Kove as she tackles a high-stakes interrogation. 'Interrogation' went on to win several awards, including Best Short Film at the Cannes Short Film Festival!

We were thrilled to support the incredible work of Nilaari, a Bristol-based mental health charity, by creating an animation that highlights their mission and services. The animation showcases the importance of culturally competent mental health support through a vibrant, culturally inspired design featuring African, Caribbean, and Indian imagery.

Using real-life case studies and authentic voiceovers from the Nilaari team, we aimed to capture the genuine, impactful work they do to support their community. It’s a reminder of the power of personalized care and the critical role mental health organizations like Nilaari play.

Happy New Years! Controversially, we're kicking off the year by looking back at some of our favourite projects! We've asked all of our team to submit their favourite project that they've worked on whilst they've been at the company. We're kicking off with one of our newest members, Chris, Digital Artist! Let's hear what he had to say:

Hey Chris, what's been your favourite project to work on whilst you’ve been at Giggle?
"My favourite project is always the next one! I’ve just finished our Christmas card and creating some animated assets for our new branding.

That's interesting, why is that?
"I always want to push myself to be better than the last project, to learn a new skill and put it into practice. I like to do the difficult jobs and find ways to make them work and bring everything together to move with purpose and style.

Stay tuned to see what else the team have to say!

And that’s (almost…) a wrap on 2024 for Distortion Creative Group! What a year it’s been! 🚀

Studio Giggle kicked off the year with a return to the World Economic Forum (we're already working on WEF 2025 — watch this space!), creating some beautiful visuals. Then in April, we proudly launched Distortion Studios, Bristol's first-ever virtual production studio! Since then, Distortion Studios has hosted a range of exciting shoots, from a nature documentary and TVC to a short film and even a stunning recreation of the SFX in Alien: Romulus.

Meanwhile, Studio Giggle has continued to deliver exceptional animations, films, and events for our clients, agencies, and collaborators. Our brand has also undergone a transformation, with a fresh new look and the addition of our new Group CEO, Rob King, who brings invaluable leadership as we continue to grow.

As we look ahead to 2025, we are excited about the future and all the new opportunities it will bring. But before we move forward, we would like to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful friends, families, suppliers, clients, and partners. Your support has been vital to our success, and we couldn’t have reached these milestones without you.

Here’s to another year of creativity, collaboration, and growth. We can’t wait to see what lies ahead!

We're excited to share one of our latest projects! We had the incredible opportunity to create immersive visual content for a gala dinner in Monaco. Working alongside the talented team at Sleek Events, we brought the concept of “To the Moon and Back” and “Navigating New Frontiers” to life for 1,400 guests.

Our team designed 20 pieces of bespoke content using Notch, enhancing four spectacular circus acts from our friends at Cirque Bijou and setting the atmosphere throughout the evening. From a launch pad bathed in sunset light to constellations forming in the stars, our visuals took the audience on a journey from Earth to the Moon.

It was quite the event, with four 26m long, 3m high panoramic projection screens surrounding the audience we were able to create a truly immersive experience. Our content seamlessly integrated with aerial performances, robotic interactions, and even a space-themed menu!

A big thank you to Sleek Events, Cirque Bijou, On The Sly, Show Director Simon Tapping and the wider events team. It’s always a pleasure to work with teams that push the boundaries of creativity and technology
