First-look pics are in for series two of hit comedy-drama Boarders, which filmed earlier this year at The Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Bristol with support from Bristol Film Office 🎬

Following widespread critical acclaim (including a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes🍅) for its first series, Boarders will be returning for a 2nd term on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three next year 👏

Josh Tedeku (Jaheim), Jodie Campbell (Leah), Sekou Diaby (Toby), Myles Kamwendo (Omar) and Aruna Jalloh (Femi) are back at St Gilbert’s. Whilst series one saw these five outsiders begin to thrive, series two asks how much they’re willing to sacrifice just to survive.

Created and written by the BAFTA-nominated Daniel Lawrence Taylor (who co-stars as Gus), Boarders is produced by Studio Lambert, part of All3media, in association with All3media international for the BBC

👠 👠 👠 Rivals has arrived! 👠 👠 👠
Hit the link below to read our blog with insights into the making of the show at our premium TBY2 facility and on location in Bristol & the West country.

“Bristol and The Bottle Yard Studios were the perfect production base for Jilly Cooper’s Rivals, which is set in the glorious countryside of the Cotswolds,” says Producer Eliza Mellor. “We were very excited to be the first production to use the two main stages of TBY2 and they certainly lived up to our expectations.

“We were able to build the TV studio, complete with a 1980’s control room on one of the stages and used the second stage for other Corinium TV interiors, the Priory kitchen and sitting room and many other small sets that were needed across the series. We also had our production and art department offices on site at The Bottle Yard and the staff were on hand to help with all our requirements. We were able to find all the locations within a 30-mile radius of The Bottle Yard. And one of the big attractions of filming in the Bristol area is that there are so many local crew of a very high calibre to choose from.”

We've included galleries of the studio sets built at TBY2, and there's more about Bristol locations to look out for that were facilitated by Bristol Film Office, including streets around St Nicholas Market and Harbour Hotel Bristol, and Aerospace Bristol which supplied a certain iconic jet that fitted the bill perfectly, being so distinct to the jet-setting 80's era and Bristol's supersonic reputation for aviation ✈️

Plus more from ITV Studios Head of Production Gary Matsell, about the local crew and trainees that were so vital to the making of this show 🎬

One of the UK’s leading special effects companies, Real SFX was founded in Cardiff in 2008, and has become a trusted name in the industry having worked on major titles including BBC dramas Doctor Who and Peaky Blinders, Netflix hits You and Fool Me Once, and feature films such as The Expendables 4.

Covering the whole of the UK, the company’s expertise includes;
🎬 Pyrotechnics (e.g. explosions and fire effects)
🎬 Atmospheric Effects (e.g. fog, smoke, rain, wind)
🎬 Mechanical Effects (e.g. custom-built rigs and mechanisms for action sequences)
🎬 Environmental Effects (e.g. simulations of natural phenomena like storms and floods)

Real SFX is also behind KIT4CREW, the new sustainable initiative designed to make use of unused or unwanted creative industry workwear - a scheme we fully support here at The Bottle Yard Studios (you'll find donation bins stationed in numerous locations across our two sites). This valuable initiative saw Real SFX named Green Business of the Year at the 2024 South Wales Business Awards last month 👏👏👏

Danny Hargreaves, Real SFX Founder and Company Director, says: “We are absolutely thrilled to be opening a Real SFX workshop at The Bottle Yard in Bristol. Expanding our presence to this vibrant and creative hub marks a significant milestone for Real SFX. The Bottle Yard offers a unique environment that aligns perfectly with our commitment to excellence and innovation in special effects, and the promotion of sustainability in the industry.

“We were keen to strengthen our presence within Bristol, and The Bottle Yard was the natural choice for this expansion. We will be utilising our skilled crew in the area and also offering new training and job opportunities to bring more talent into the industry, either by upskilling local professionals such as electricians, engineers and carpenters, or by supporting new entrants. This move not only enhances our ability to serve our clients better but also reinforces our role in the UK’s thriving film and TV industry. We look forward to contributing to the innovative projects and exciting developments happening at The Bottle Yard.”
