Maya Jessop is a member of the Seneca nation and Snipe Clan. They are currently a master’s candidate at the University of Windsor in the English Literature and Creative Writing program. In 2022 they received their bachelors of English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Windsor.

For anyone interested in attending, the event will take place in MacKenzie Hall tomorrow and start at 7PM. Free parking, refreshments, and admission! $5 of the proceeds from each book sold at the launch will be donated to the Windsor Endowment for the Arts.

Laurie Smith’s poetry has had success in Canada and the U.S. Her collections include The Truth About Roller Skating (CTP, 2011), smack in the middle of spotlit obvious (Urban Farmhouse Press, 2016), Said the Cannibal (Urban Farmhouse Press, 2017), and Suck & Spit (Black Moss Press, 2020). A freelance editor and writing tutor/coach, she is currently developing several manuscripts.

Rawand Mustafa is a Palestinian Syrian student and writer living in Windsor, ON. She draws inspiration from her religious perspective as a Muslim woman and from social justice causes, and she is particularly impassioned by the struggles and resilience of Palestinians living in exile or under occupation.

Hi everyone! I'm Aaron, and I'm a fourth year English major at the University of Windsor. For more information about our newest collection, In the Middle Space, read this news release from the City of Windsor! In the Middle Space is the newest book in the South Shore Collections, a series based on the city's Poet Laureate & Storytellers program.

Onsite at the launch event only, $5.00 from the sale of each book will be donated to the Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA) Changing the Odds program (https://wea-arts.com/cto-programs-2/). This WEA initiative seeks to make the arts more accessible to local youth living with challenging social, emotional, financial, physical or mental health circumstances, and who tend to be under-served due to their life situations.

Irene Moore Davis is an educator, historian, podcaster, documentary film producer, TV talk show co-host, and community advocate who teaches, speaks, and writes frequently about African Canadian history as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion. Her published work includes poetry, history, and journalism. A graduate of the University of Windsor, Western University, and Queen’s University, Irene resides in Windsor with her husband, Rodney Davis.

Carlinda D’Alimonte has authored three books of poetry with Black Moss Press: Now That We Know Who We Are (2004), Other Living Things (2009), and Morning Song (2018). Introducing Leah, who is a member of our social media and marketing team!

Hi everyone! My name is Leah, and I am a fourth-year English and Creative Writing student, with minors in Greek and Roman Studies and Psychology. I would like to pursue a career in publishing, making the Editing and Publishing Practicums with Black Moss Press eye-openers into the industry for me. I am a poet, and working with 13 poets on this project, including several previous Windsor Poets Laureate, was a really special experience!
