On September 12, 2023: Captain Chenda Wangchuk and his daughter, Junior First Officer Ms. Choki Wangchuk, who co-piloted flight KB040 from Paro to Bumthang for the very first time. Exceptional moment of aviation history.
They followed the footsteps of Hon’ble (Captain) Yab Dhondup Gyaltshen and his son, First Officer Dasho Thinlay Norbu, who made history on July 27, 2019, by piloting a flight together for Drukair, Royal Bhutan Airlines.
Captain Chenda Wangchuk's journey in the aviation industry began on August 8, 1997, when he joined Drukair as a pilot. Over the years, his dedication and expertise led to his promotion to the rank of Captain on December 1, 2006. He acquired his commercial pilot's license through the Civil Aviation Training Center in Thailand.
Ms. Choki Wangchuk, following in her father's aviation legacy, achieved a significant milestone herself. On December 14, 2022, she successfully completed her first line check and training, earning the title of Junior First Officer on December 15, 2022. Her pilot license was obtained through Sriracha Aviation.
On an intriguing note, the brother of Junior First Officer Ms. Choki Wangchuk and the son of Captain Chenda Wangchuk, is also a pilot in command, Captain Kelzang Wangchuk. He joined Drukair as a Trainee Pilot on September 5, 2014, and he earned his fourth bar as Captain on March 24, 2022.
This remarkable father-son-daughter trio serves as a symbolic bridge between generations in Bhutan's aviation history. Their shared passion for aviation, unwavering commitment to excellence, and the honor of flying together exemplify the values of perseverance and determination that resonate with the enduring spirit of aviation in Bhutan.
