Australian Institute of International Affairs - National Office welcomed Kosovo 🇽🇰 Deputy Foreign Minister H.E Mr Kreshnik Ahmet last night as part of its continuing series of influential speakers throughout the year.

The Address entitled “16 years of Independence: Kosovo’s Journey to Statehood” explored the nation's creation out of conflict to a significant security player in the region.

The Deputy Foreign Minister spoke of Kosovo’s impact being felt far beyond its borders, saying that Kosovo was once a nation of refugees that now is taking refugees and once required security assistance which it is now providing to others in the region.

The Minister spoke of Kosovo’s ideal to join the Council of the Council of the European Union 🇪🇺, saying the measure has the support of every political party and that Kosovo is an ideal candidate.

A representative from the office of Minister for Foreign Affairs Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Penny Wong - Senator for SA was present taking notes on the Deputy Minister’s Presentation.

In addition, another significant attendee of note was The Honourable Penelope Wensley AC, the 25th Governor of Queensland from 2008-2014.

Yesterday the Deputy Minister met with his counterparts in Parliament House and is conducting a tour visiting Australia 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 in July.

The discussion led by Australian Institute of International Affairs - ACT Branch President Heath McMichael was also simulcast by the AIIA to their online audience in a Hybrid Event.
