Yogi Adityanath’s politics, is based entirely of religious divisions especially between Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims. The main tactic used here is that Muslims and Hindus cannot coexist and since the BJP believes that India is a Hindu-only country, Muslims must assimilate and become Hindus or else they must be Pakistani agents. Essentially Yogi and the BJP want monocultural and Hindu-only India. This notion extends to the Sikhs as well because the BJP promotes the false idea that Sikhs are a sect of Hindus (we will debunk this myth in a future post) and any Sikh who opposes this is a Khalistani and an ISI agent. They further use attacks on Sikhs is Pakistan to create an atmosphere of hate between Sikhs and Muslims This post looks at the openly racist, Hindu supremacist and Islamophobic remarks made by Yogi Adityanath.
1. The most disgusting video available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqfsjABygiU (3:37 seconds) shows Yogi’s men telling Hindus to r*pe dead Muslim women. Australian Sikh Media will not go into depth on this one, but it is completely disgusting and openly Islamophobic and having someone of such views in parliament is a clear failure of India’s political system.
2. Another video found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5KiCVghJB0 (13 seconds) shows Yogi clearly stating that if a Hindu is hurt we will not report it to the Police, but we will kill 10 people in revenge. This is coming from a member of Parliament; no wonder India has become a chaotic country with intercommunal hate, polticians are supposed to tell people to follow the law, not to carry out revenge killings.
3. In another video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uobtVbU0zSM (32 second time), Yogi is clearly promoting Islamophobic hate speech and revenge attack as he says “We have decided that if one Hindu women converts to Islam then we will convert atleast 100 Muslim girls”, here Yogi is saying that a Hindu girl converting to Islam from her free will is not okay according to him in revenge 100 Muslim girls must be converted into Hinduism, even if this is through forceful conversions. Australian Sikh Media believes that women should be free to choose what religion they follow but here Yogi is clearly supporting forced conversions into Hinduism promoting the idea of Hindu supremacy.
4. In the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqfsjABygiU (at 3:17 seconds) Yogi clearly states that Muslims and Hindus cannot live together in harmony and there will be a clash between them, and that the BJP supports Hindus. In Australia, Hindus and Muslims live in harmony and peace so why can they not do so in India? It is because politicians like Yogi and the BJP actively work to create such divides and victimise Muslims, openly discriminating against them, and encouraging conflict to have a Hindu only India.
5. In the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhselMEhmnM (44 second time), Yogi is talking about Shahrukh Khan and says that the Indian public should stop watching his movies so that Shahrukh Khan can suffer in poverty like the rest of the Muslims in India. This is openly racist as Yogi is implying that Muslims in India should be living on the streets in poverty. This is completely inappropriate for a political leader to say and ultimately shows Yogi Islamophobic views, he sees people differently based on their religion. Why don’t Muslims deserve nice homes, nice cars, and nice food?
6. In another video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFml4kjSJz0 , Yogi clearly states that he supports the Hijab ban in India school and supports that organisations have the right to make their own dress codes even if it is discriminatory. Moreover, Yogi himself is wearing religious attire and does so in parliament too, so this is hypocrisy at its finest! The Australian Sikh Media, finds this condemnable as Yogi wears his Bhagwa but says that Hijabs should be removed, for Sikhs this is extremely concerning because soon they will also be forced to remove their turbans in India under this umbrella of “dress code” and the BJP will do nothing. Yogi further goes on to state that this is ban is for discipline. This is a very stupid statement because schools are supposed to be about education, not telling women what to wear? How does stripping someone of their religious rights promote discipline?

Australian Sikh Media also found that Yogi Adityanath has used his political power to silence his critics. On 10th February 2022, Zakir Tyagi had a case of sedition against him for Facebook posts criticising chief minister Yogi Adityanath. In 2020, he was dragged out of his house in Aminabad village and beaten by a dozen policemen. The Australian Sikh Media strongly condemns and does not support Yogi in any way.
