Seems like a pretty simple question, right? but actually the definition can vary so much depending on who you ask.

Consumers would most likely describe a brand as a company’s logo or colours, but as good designers and marketers know a brand is so much more than just the visual elements of a brand.

In the simplest of terms a brand can be described as a group of intangible elements that help consumers to identify a particular product or company.

But, brands are actually built on consumer perceptions and although we can create the elements to influence the way brands are perceived, it’s extremely important to build strategy and design with the target audience at the heart of every decision made.

If you want a unique brand identity, core brand collateral like logos, business cards, brochures, websites, or anything that is core to your brand...don't use Canva. Canva has a place in creating images and text content quickly, but using Canva for your core branding is a bad strategy. ⁠

Collateral like your logo and business cards are often the first thing that a prospect sees, and as the old saying goes, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. The input of a skilled graphic designer is needed to get the nuanced non-verbal cues right - to make sure your brand is memorable for the right reasons. Canva simply doesn't have the power or creativity to make a "brand". ⁠

They know when your brand uses it; and while non-Canva users might not, they know they’ve seen posts that look a lot like yours before. So...there goes unique brand identity. ⁠

You’re not fooling anyone. No one thinks your Mac and Cheese microwave dinner was made from scratch.⁠

Worse still, the danger is not that the average consumer will notice that you are using Canva templates, the danger is that they won’t notice your content at all, having been bombarded with so much other similar content they will just tune yours out.⁠
