A Message from Mitchell
Dear friends of State Theatre Company South Australia,
I’ve been so privileged to be the Artistic Director of this magnificent Company for nearly six years now and been equally privileged to work on many shows with uniquely talented South Australian and national artists. So many moments from those shows will linger in my memory. As will my conversations with so many of our audiences and supporters who value the Company’s work.
In November, I will be completing my tenure with the Company to take up the position of Artistic Director at Sydney Theatre Company and I want to thank you all for making my time at the Company such a wonderful experience.
It has been an immense privilege and delight to have helped lead the Company alongside my visionary dear friend, Executive Director Julian Hobba, our inspiring and wise Chair, Joe Thorp, and to have been supported by the herculean work and care of a devoted Board and Foundation, a phenomenally gifted and passionate staff and artistic community and an array of government, creative, corporate and philanthropic colleagues. I have loved making theatre here (especially new work) with bold and brave artists, while helping to lead the Company into a period of increased national touring, innovative and extensive collaborations and organisational growth and security.
I am excited to be joining new colleagues at Sydney Theatre Company, the Company that was my training ground as a young actor and am eager to develop more collaborations between Sydney and Adelaide of projects like The Dictionary of Lost Words. Sydney may be my birthplace but the great love I have for Adelaide and State Theatre Company South Australia will be the lighthouse for the next part of my journey. I cannot wait to share with SA audiences the cracker shows we have programmed for my final season in 2025, to be launched on October 31.
Please come and find me in the Playhouse foyer over the rest of the year so I can say thank you in person!
