A tax driver has died after being attacked and stabbed by criminals who booked him from Kalingalinga Township on Saturday.

Suzyo Mwale, aged 42, was operating as a taxi driver using a Nissan Note with registration number AIE 7804 when he was attacked by unknown assailants.

The incident occurred in the Makeni Patel area after he was booked from Kalingalinga.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said during the robbery, the assailants stabbed Mr Mwale on the left side of his neck, inflicting deep wounds.

He noted that the knife used in the attack was left lodged in his body while the criminals proceeded to steal his cell phones and wallet, which contained an undisclosed sum of money.

Mr Hamoonga said that despite his serious injuries, Mr Mwale managed to shout for help, causing the suspects to flee the scene.

“Good Samaritans in the area responded to his cries, and he was able to contact his elder brother, Mr. Nkhowani. He was immediately transported to Makeni Police Station, where he was issued a medical report and rushed to the University Teaching Hospital for emergency surgery to remove the knife,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga added that despite the medical intervention, Mr Mwale succumbed to his injuries and died on Monday morning.

“The Zambia Police Service strongly condemns this heinous act and is actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects involved. We urge any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident or have any information that could assist in the investigation to come forward and report to Makeni Police Station or any nearby police station,” he said.

13/09/2024

Fellow Citizens,

It is said that ignorance of the law is no defense and that little knowledge in a particular subject matter can be very dangerous.

While we can excuse Mr Hakainde Hichilema for his ignorance of the law, we are concerned and actually worried that his little knowledge or understanding of the Zambian Constitution can be very destructive and has the potential to set the country on fire.

As he officially opened Parliament today, he talked about lacunae in the Constitution that need to be addressed because some of them could lead the country to NOT having elections for 8 or 9 years.
Such a reckless statement should not be allowed to come from the mouth of a Head of State.

To start with, what is a lacuna in the context of the law? Simply speaking, a lacuna refers to a “deficiency” or “gap” in the legal system or a law. In common or lay language, when we hear people say the law is “silent” about a particular matter, they are basically talking about the “lacuna” in the law.

As far as Zambians are aware, the Republican Constitution, as amended in 2016, is very unequivocal about the subject of holding elections. This is the Constitution that has been credited with the unprecedented prescription of even the date for General Elections.

A lacuna in the Constitution implies that there is no specific provision or regulation that addresses a particular situation or issue.

So can Mr Hichilema disclose the actual gaps in the Constitution regarding the holding of elections which he referred to before he excites unnecessary debate about the extension of his stay in office knowing that his days are numbered?

There has been talk that the UPND government is contemplating to extend the Presidential term from the current 5 to 7 years. This type of reckless pronouncement from Mr Hichilema inevitably gives credence to such talks about extension of the Presidential term of Office which in the first place should not even be the subject of any kind of debate or discussion.

Zambians, Wake up and stop this apparent dictator from tampering with our Republican Constitution in order to extend his stay in power even when he has lamentably failed to improve the lives of the people.

He thought 2026 was very far. Well, Here it is; 2026 KUYA BEBELE!!

There is no lacuna to cling to.

CLARIFICATION ON UNPAID ALLOWANCE AND CONCERNS ABOUT THE POOR MANAGEMENT AND SPORTS ADMINISTRATION OF ZAMBIA.

I would like to take this opportunity to address some important issues regarding recent press statements made by the Ministry of Sports Mr Elvis Nkandu and the overall Ministry sports.

First and foremost, it has come to my attention and many other sports individual that the Ministry of Sports recently announced that all sports men and women have received their allowances and the only dues that are pending are for the winning bonuses, this was also addressed by some social media influencers .I must clarify that, contrary to this statement,we have not received any such payment. This situation is concerning, as these allowances are crucial for sports men and women to cover their training expenses as almost every individual provides with themselves transport for training, and day-to-day living costs of which most of the sports personnel have families that they do take care of The lack of financial support directly impacts our ability to perform at our best and represent Zambia with honor and dedication on the global stage. The statement made on 23rd August 2024 is void as athletes have not received allowances from the Paris24 Olympic.

Furthermore, as sports and women we would like to express my deep concerns regarding the current state of sports management in Zambia. It is increasingly evident that there is a significant lack of individuals with a proper background in sports within the countries sports administration. This has led to numerous challenges, including inefficient resource allocation, inadequate support for athletes, and a general lack of strategic vision for the future of sports in our country.

Sports management should be driven by individuals who have firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the unique demands faced by sports men and women. Unfortunately, not to look down on them but, the administration seems to lack this essential expertise, resulting in decisions that do not align with the needs of or the development of sports in Zambia. This mismanagement is detrimental not only to the sport's Men and women but also to the country’s potential to excel in international competitions and bring back home results as expected by citizens.

We urge the government of Zambia to address these concerns with urgency. It is crucial to involve professionals who have a genuine understanding of sports and are committed to fostering an environment that supports and enhances the performance of sports men and women. By doing so, we can ensure that sports men and women are adequately supported and that Zambia can achieve greater success in sports but if ignored the dream of that child who looks forward to putting the country in the world of sport will be killed.

As sports men and women we remain committed to representing Zambia to the best of our abilities and hope that the necessary steps will be taken to improve the management and support of sports in our country.

TOXIC MEALIE MEAL,THE CONTINUOUS CONSUMPTION BY CITIZENS AND GOVT's SILENCE NAMING THE BRAND..

The government must take immediate action to address the toxic mealie meal scandal, rather than concealing vital information and putting citizens lives at risk. The more they delay, the more people are exposed to harm. It is unacceptable to prioritize investigations over human lives.

As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family" (Article 25). Moreover, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights emphasizes the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health (Article 12).

In other countries, citizens have successfully sued their governments for concealing vital information and endangering public health. For instance, in the United States, the Toxic Substances Control Act allows citizens to take legal action against the government for failing to protect them from harmful substances (15 U.S.C. §2601 et seq.).

Similarly, in South Africa, the Constitutional Court has held that the government has a constitutional obligation to provide access to healthcare services, including ensuring the safety of food products (Soobramoney v Minister of Health, KwaZulu-Natal 1998).

The government must prioritize transparency and accountability, ensuring that citizens have access to accurate information about the safety of food products. Anything less is a violation of their human right to health and well-being.
We have the right to know what we are consuming it's wrong for Govt to conceal important information that is putting people's lives at risk.
WE DEMAND TO KNOW!!!!!
