What does 59 Years of Independence mean to us?

The day came and went and life has continued like that. I have been thinking about the fact that we shall be 60 years as a nation next and this should mean so much for our nation.

As Years unfold, we need to seriously introspect if we have been fair to ourselves and to Zambia. To help us introspect, we could as ourselves a few questions:
1. How's our Education system? Is there something we can do to make it better as we get to the next level of our Independence?
2. How much have our institutions developed and grown to make sure that we grow as a nation and guarantee growth at individual and national level?
3. Who are the opinion makers in our nation? Are they doing enough to stimulate health debates that border on national development?
4. How much have we invested in the Environmental safety, in ICT and in innovation?
5. How diverse and mordern is the University Curriculum to ensure industry leaders are made from universities?
6. Is there a linkage between School, University and the world of Work?
7. How well are we using the natural resources Zambia is endowed with?
8. How has school helped in developing individual talents for our youngsters?
9. How resilient is our Economy and what can be done to make it stronger?
10. What do want to be as a nation by the time we turn 100 years old?

These among many other questions can help us dedicate to make Zambia better.

Enjoy your weekend

Who is to blame?
We as a nation have on several times been faced with challenges and instead of honestly soul searching to find sustainable solutions, we have in most cases moved quickly to find someone to blame.
We are where we are as a nation because for a long time, we have failed to identify the actual problem, as a result we have been using wrong medicine to heal the problem.
Zambia πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡² needs the post Jubilee Leaders who are honest enough to deal with real problems. In addition, citizens should realise that Leaders do not assume office to deal with their individual problems but assume with a bigger picture of Societal good.
Until our voter stop thinking that Leaders owe them individual favors, Leaders will not make progress is Leadership.
Great weekend to you all.

Happy teachers Day

On a day like this, I focus to look at how education has been trivialised in Africa especially when it comes to intentional education outcomes.

Africa is a continent where geography of an area, needs of society, talents and interests of a learner aren't considered when setting a curriculum.

Africa remain this reliant and with low self esteem because we have allowed mediocrity to prevail over our education.

With so many resources and opportunities, we Africans would rather trek to the West and Europe in search of opportunities while denying ourselves such opportunities back at home

We have not taught our people the strength that lies within them and as a result we continue thinking other people are better than us.

We have chance to reflect and correct the situation.

Happy Teachers Day to all teachers.

CDF TAKING DEVELOPMENT TO EVERY CORNER OF ZAMBIA.

Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta, MP

As elected people's representatives we would like to applaud the Bureaucrats at Nkeyema Council who have stepped up and are firing from all cylinders; yes you have guessed right!! They have just enabled us to do another double on Monday, 2nd October, 2023. This is the day we handed over to the community a one by three classroom block at Agape in Nkeyema Ward and the other at Kamungomba in Litoya Ward. We are truly thankful to the structured manner they have proceeded to implement projects. As a matter of fact in the next fortnight or so we will be commissioning projects in our area like confetti!.

Courtesy of this Team at the Council. Our thanks and gratitude also goes to the Private Sector and some International Non-Governmental Organizations as well as private individuals that have decided to uplift the livelihoods and well-being of the community by opting to work in Nkeyema using their criteria of selection. We are truly thankful to all of you; some of whom have decided to remain nameless for now until the big day!
For the Naysayers look at the pictures and see where we are coming from and what the New Dawn Government has done in two years. In other words one can say the two pictures illustrate the fallen and current Government; ten as opposed to two years. Previously as now people in these regions were paying taxes but under which Government can one say their taxes were/are working for them? Be the judge!!
This is why we say the CDF is such a Game Changer especially for rural communities. One key factor which appears to have escaped the majority is how the CDF has mitigated the Rural-Urban Drift. People don’t have to go to town now to chase opportunities; they are now right there in the villages. With the enhanced CDF to K30.6 Million the CDF Committee should now be able to transit to other needy areas in the community driven by needs such as water and sanitation.

This is what development looks like. We shall soon be there.

The need to amend the Zambian Constitution.

By Kennedy M Chileshe

It is refreshing to learn that the Clerk of Zambian National Assembly has written to all Parliamentarians on the need for them to make submissions as the process begins.

This is clear demonstration of how clear and transparent this process is going to be. Members of Parliament are the legislators and them making submissions means people making submissions, this translates into what is famously called a People driven Constitution.

President Hakainde Hichilema has scored on this item and we can only encourage this administration to continue on this trajectory.

Unlike those who think otherwise because of being driven by Political Affiliation and other isms, we understand that our Constitution almost caused Constitution crisis on multiple times as we shall demonstrate below.
1. The famous 14 days of the sitting of the Constitutional Court
2. The failure by President Lungu to handover Power to the Speaker when his election was petitioned
3. The famous Election Eligibility
4. By Elections
5. The enhanced Constituency Development Fund and the role of MPs
6. The need to cut red tape, bureaucracy and multiple licencing when

These among many other issues that need sorting in Zambia as we position it for modern democracy.

Constitution Amendment is a priority and should be undertaken.

Bally does a go come pa Congo DR πŸ‡¨πŸ‡© as he writes

Fellow citizens,

We are delighted to have joined His Excellency President Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to inaugurate the Kasomeno - Kasenga - Chalwe - Manila - Mwenda Road, along with the One Stop Border Post Project, which includes the construction of the Luapula River Bridge.

Zambia and the DRC share robust bilateral relations, and this project exemplifies our commitment to strengthening the ties between our two nations and peoples.

In our pursuit of delivering infrastructure projects, Zambia is dedicated to leveraging Public Private Partnerships. This approach not only alleviates fiscal pressure but also encourages active participation from the private sector in our economic development.

This project's significance extends beyond regional integration; it will bolster connectivity, improve accessibility, reduce transport costs, and contribute to poverty alleviation by generating jobs and fostering wealth creation.

Zambia's access to regional and international markets presents a vital opportunity for diversification and growth. The tripartite region boasts immense market potential and GDP growth, which our country aims to harness.

We call upon GED Africa to prioritize the utilization of local materials and the employment of local people, especially our youth and women.

We have since arrived back in Lusaka and thank you for your prayers.

*TYING UP THE LOOSE ENDS*

A close look at the composition of the WDC suggests that CDF related functions of WDCs require input/guidance from extension officers from various government departments that are very active (or expected to be active) in a ward. The Act includes marginalized groups, churches, NGOs, youths, traditional, leaders, gender focal persons, a ward councilor and a council trustee because all these groups are expected to contribute to the selection process of community projects. This can help align community priorities with government plans.

Decentralization is not about a disorganized approach to development where the loudest voices carry the day; it has to be methodical. The silence in the CDF guidelines on the operations of zones needs to be addressed. Zones must be explicitly given powers to form WDC subcommittees to address specific concerns of the communities. This will ensure that technocrats within a zone are available to equip their zonal leaders for meaningful representation at WDC level. It will also ensure that that the communication gap between local authorities/government departments and communities during formulation of IDPs is bridged.

Quality Education should be a priority if we are to raise citizens with a futuristic mindset.

Whatever progress our society has made over the centuries is because of education. Being the foundation stone of society, education brings reforms, helps in progress and paves the way for innovation. The importance of quality education cannot be undermined in a society that is looking to grow and sustainably develop.

We as a society should know that it is not just about what we want to achieve or attain right away, sometimes we need to look at a bigger picture. We can't have citizens whose minds are so today tailored forgetting what is done today has a ripple effect on what tomorrow will be.

Very few people will finish reading this, yet still not get the message because we seem to be so tailored to summary.

Our current education isn't so helpful.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE CHILDREN OF MR EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU, ZAMBIA’S 6TH REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT

The past year and a half have proven to be hard times for our family. Our lives have revolved around family and constantly being invited to the Law Enforcement Agencies. We have endeavored to lead a quiet life after our father left office in August 2021.

We must hasten to say that we are not objectionable to the Law Enforcement Agencies making inquiries into any matter and we have constantly and consistently complied with the Law Enforcement Agencies. Despite our compliance, it seems to us that it has become fashionable to demonize the Lungu family based on unfounded allegations.

The state has not made it any easier for us, as they seem to play to the gallery in matters that relate to our family. Ordinarily, we would expect to be the first to know as relates to matters involving any member of our family. However, we have learnt of the recent lawsuits through news items published in tabloids and various social media platforms. We proceeded to engage our lawyers to obtain the necessary documents from the state, which attempt was met with difficulties.

We have finally obtained the necessary documents and will proceed to respond appropriately.

Our appeal to you all is to allow us to defend ourselves in court. The dramatization of our circumstances by the state in the daily tabloids has only worked to demonize our father who worked diligently to serve this country and willingly handed over power to the incumbent. We have had to spend considerable amount of time with our father and mother who, in all these difficult times, have opted to remain silent.

Our father’s resolve is that we allow the law to take its course, and we agree with that position.

Whereas some may call our father different names, he remains a caring father to us and a loving husband to our mother.

We wish to thank all that have reached out and empathized with us. Your encouragement has kept us going.

In conclusion, our request is that we may not be tried in the media but that we be given justice in court.

Kennedy Chileshe writes

Many countries like India were colonised but they recovered from colonization by having an Education that liberates people's minds to lead to innovativeness, ICT development and industrialisation among others.
In Africa, we continued with an education good enough to make us second class citizens good enough to work for others. Then we continue to wonder why despite so much hardwork, we seem not to make sustainable progress.
Until education starts producing independent minds, we will not make much progress.

I genuinely hope, that the mountain of support the nation accorded in achieving the fete, will drive us towards promoting, embracing, preserving, and find a way of prioritizing local content a whole lot more than we have previously been doing.

And I am sure the industry may well have challenges of its own, but I retain the confidence that we have enough creatives managers in Zambia to be able to work through the challenges and get the industry onto the next level.

This is the only way we shall encourage new talent to emerge, while spurring creativity among our existing pool of headline talent, as well as energizing the growth of the creative industry.

In Tanzania, local comes first.

We too can find a way.

All the best on your new project.

***********PRESS STATEMENT***********

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S PARTICIPATION IN THE AFRICAN PEACE INITIATIVE ON RUSSIA AND UKRAINE

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to inform the Nation that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, will on Wednesday, 14th June, 2023, embark on an official visit to Ukraine and the Russian Federation. During this visit the President will on 16th June 2023 meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, and, subsequently, the President will meet President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on 17th June, 2023. These meetings are part of the African Peace Initiative focused on addressing the situation between Russia and Ukraine.

President Hichilema will be joining six other African Heads of State and Government from the following countries Comoros, Congo Brazzaville, Egypt, Senegal, South Africa, and Uganda to participate in this significant initiative. The African Peace Initiative draws upon Africa’s successful track record of resolving conflicts through dialogue and peace-building, with the African leaders aiming to encourage open dialogue and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

Zambia remains deeply committed to global peace as a catalyst for socio-economic development in Africa and the world at large, underscoring its decision to join this initiative.

The far-reaching consequences of the conflict, including disruptions to Africa's commodity supply chains, extend beyond the humanitarian crisis. Recognizing these implications, President Hichilema and the New Dawn Administration actively advocate for peace, security, and stability worldwide. By embracing this initiative, Zambia seeks to create an environment conducive to economic and social prosperity.

While expressing concern and urgency to resolve the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict, the President cites equally pressing and growing security and humanitarian challenges in the region, brought on particularly by the fighting in Sudan, as well as the continuing tension elsewhere on the continent. These conflicts have taken a devastating toll on African communities, resulting in the loss of life, and food insecurity, due to the rising costs of grain and fertilizer both in Africa, broadly, and acutely so for Zambia.

President Hichilema underscores the importance of upholding fundamental principles of territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and peaceful dispute settlement, as outlined by the African Union Constitutive Act and the United Nations Charter. Consequently, the President will urgently be engaging with his African counterparts across the continent to facilitate dialogue among the warring factions in identified parts of Africa, while urging the global community to explore all possible avenues to end the devastating conflict in Ukraine.

Leveraging its established leadership in conflict mitigation and the promotion of peace and stability within the region and beyond, Zambia embraces its role in this essential continental initiative with a sense of pride and honor.

President Hichilema is expected to return to Lusaka immediately after this Mission.
