MUZALA Samukonga says he will not accept any pledges, citing “personal reasons and circumstances beyond my control.”

The 400m specialist had received multiple pledges from corporate organisations and individuals following his bronze medal-winning performance at the Paris Olympics but has made the decision not to accept the offers.

“This decision was not made lightly, and I hope that you understand the circumstances that led to this choice,” he wrote on his page on Wednesday morning.

"I deeply value your support and look forward to your continued encouragement in future endeavors and hope and pray that in the near future I’ll be able to receive them but as at for now it is not my intentions not to get the pledges but circumstances beyond my control.”

Nigerian's furious over Idris Elba's selection to play Okonkwo in 'Things Fall Apart' adaptation

NIGERIAN social media users are questioning the choice of British actor Idris Elba to portray Okonkwo in the adaptation of Chinua Achebe's novel, 'Things Fall Apart'.

They believe a Nigerian actor, like Pete Edochie, would have been the right fit.

Many Nigerians believe a foreign actor may struggle to accurately represent the character's heritage and language.

Elba's ability to portray an authentic African accent is also being questioned. What do you make of those concerns by Nigerians?

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING INVERTERS OR SOLAR PANELS!!!!

HERE’S EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The most important component about the 'solar system' is the solar panels (Photovoltaic) and the batteries.

The solar panels just like the Kariba dam, generates power whilst the batteries store power for later usage when the sun ☀️ stops shining.

Therefore, it is important that as you plan to buy a solar system for your homes and businesses, as a means to have uninterrupted power supply, you need to consider increasing your budget towards solar panels and batteries.

An inverter is more like a conveyor belt that just converts Direct Current (DC) from the sun and batteries into Alternating Current (AC) that your appliances require to operate.

So if you have decided to buy a three kilowatt system (3KVA) inverter, you may also need about five (5) 555 watts solar panels to give you about 2500 watts of power when the sun is at its peak between 09:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs in the evening.

Mostly, people ask what those panels can power? During the period mentioned above, you can power your deep freezer, fridge, your computers, water pump (2 HP and below), booster pump ( 2 HP and below), you may also press iron your clothes using a pressing iron with a rating of 1000 watts (note that the iron pressing must be done between that time above whilst the sun is at its peak).

To get the most out of your system, you will need to ensure that whilst you try to press iron, you may consider switching off the booster pump and submersible water pumps in order to direct more power to the pressing iron without stressing the system. Once you are done pressing, you may pump your water and let other appliances run normally because the heating element is switched off and not consuming more power.

Most new inverters have monitoring windows that will show you how much power is coming in from your solar panels and how much is being consumed.

Always, make sure the power from the solar panels is more than the power being used so that you don't stress the system and over use the battery 🔋.

The battery in the solar panel equation is for storage of emergency power that you will need to use when there is no sun ☀️ to provide energy. Hence, when night comes, switch off those appliances that consume a lot of energy so that your battery power lasts long to see you through the dark days.

As time goes, you may need to increase your battery storage to store more energy for dark days usage.

LATE former Cabinet Minister George Mpombo, whose burial is set for tomorrow at Chiwala cemetery in Masaiti, Copperbelt, has been accorded an official funeral.

Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa announced yesterday that President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded the late Mr Mpombo an official funeral in recognition of his immense contributions to national development.

The late Dr Mpombo served under Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) as Minister of Energy and Water Development and Minister of Defence between 2003 and 2009.

He also served as Copperbelt and Southern Province Minister as well as Member of Parliament (MP) for Kafulafuta Constituency.
After leaving Cabinet in 2009, when he resigned as Minister of Defence, President Michael Sata appointed him deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria after the 2011 general election.

“The burial programme will be preceded by the official funeral church service at Kabushi Baptist Church in Ndola at 10:00 hours.

President Hichilema has also declared Thursday, September 26th, 2024, a day of national mourning in honour of the late Dr Mpombo,” Mr Kangwa said.

“The public is further advised that during the period of national mourning, which will be observed from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours, all activities of entertainment nature on both radio and television should be suspended while flags must fly at half-mast.”
