Last September 6th, a video from a CIITizen went viral across TikTok and Facebook. Many found it entertaining and humorous as it featured a group presentation involving two students: one was explaining the contents of the presentation while the other held a device playing a video of Subway Surfers gameplay. As funny as it was, this might seem confusing to many, especially to those who donโt know the context behind it.
There has been an unusual trend on social media where pages and users post various types of content such as Reddit story narrations, Family Guy clips, celebrity interviews, short skits and more. However, these contents arenโt posted on their own; each video is accompanied with another clip within the frame. Those clips are usually passive and audioless unlike the previously mentioned content. Some of the usual snippets used include cake-making, kinetic sand slicing, and video game clips. The most famous games used for these types of videos are Subway Surfers and Minecraft.
This has resulted in videos parodying and commenting on the trend. For example, in a short comedy skit,a guy whose date isnโt paying attention to him pulls out a tablet playing a Subway Surfers video to keep her attention. This is one of the few posts that shows that this genre has gained popularity throughout multiple audiences and platforms.

Last May 19, we interviewed several CIITzens during the face-to-face orientation at the Interweave Building.

On July 8 2021, 19 year old Du Meizhu, shocked China (and eventually the world) as she accused Chinese-Canadian Actor and Popstar, Kris Wu of coercing her and other underage girls into sex in exchange to breakthrough the music industry. Despite the initial denial by Wu, 24 Girls came forward with their experiences with the said Actor, Which has led to luxury Brands such as Burberry ousting him as brand Ambassador. After his arrest by Chinese Police he has been deplatformed as all of his social media accounts were deleted and his music deleted off music streaming platforms in China. Experts say he may receive a 10 year or worse, Life sentence if proven guilty upon investigation.
Upon reading the news about this whole fiasco, I was equally shocked and disgusted by this man who once defined my early teenage years. Imagine a 12 year old who once fell for this manโs awkward charms from the time he was in EXO, up to the time he was starting his career in China and had those immature fangirl dreams of marrying their favorite Idol actually turned out to be a sexual predator. I felt weird knowing that Du Meizhu and most of the other victims are just my age and the fact that some were once fangirls too, really speaks volumes because, What if it would happen to me? As these types of situations are indeed real and can happen to anyone. Considering that I was once a delusional Fangirl of that Man and as someone who dreams of working in the Entertainment industry, I would have fallen victim too for that Modus Operandi.
I immediately withdrew all of my support from Kris Wu the moment I read those articles related to this ongoing scandal as I could not support a Sexual Predator and a Pedophile. But what made me angry is the amount of Fangirls who still publicly support this man despite the huge amount of evidence presented to them; those who chose to be blinded by their
Today marks the 49th year since Ferdinand Marcos signed Proclamation 1081, the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines. This proclamation solidified Marcos' grip as a dictator and further reinforcing the militarization of the country.
The Martial Law era was truly one of the darkest chapters in our history, wherein myriad atrocities such as torture, extrajudicial killings, and abductions were committed by the police and the military.
We remember the victims from the masses, the slain activists, jailed critics, and the human rights trampled by the Marcos regime. These crimes against the Filipino people shouldn't be celebrated but condemned.
As CIITzens and as Filipinos, let us not let historical revisionism foster in our minds. Marcos was never a hero, but a tyrant and a dictator to his own countrymen.
