Ipinapakita sa akdang Ritwal ni Ralph M. Menchavez ang sukdulang pamamanata na ipinapahayag natin sa pamamagitan ng mga bagay o gawaing pamilyar sa atin—pag-alay ng bulaklak, pagsindi ng kandila, paghain ng pagkain, at iba pa. Mahihinuha rito ang kapangyarihan ng pananalig na pinaiigting ang ating pag-asa sa mga panaginip at dalangin. Nagkakaroon tayo ng paniniwala kahit sa mga nagmimistulang wala.

Sa ngalan ng pag-ibig at pananampalataya, sumisindi’t umaalab ang ating mga pamamanata. Ikaw, kanino’t saan ka namamanata? Hanggang saan ang kaya mong gawin at itaya upang mapanatili ang siklab ng ‘yong pag-ibig at pananampalataya?

Tendrils tucked into a woven braid 🧺🧶

Clare Tantoco’s “The Last Year: The Blanket” honors the work they have done in college through weaving the readings, tests, syllabi, and research papers they have read and done through the years. The accumulation of the papers and the gesture of weaving them together both reflect the blood, sweat, and tears of being a student. It is a physical manifestation of the time spent by the artist in the university; an experience shared by the viewers.

The completed piece—a blanket—serves as a display and statement of comfort and hope for those who need it.

Seniors, it’s time to leave your creative mark. HEIGHTS invites you to submit to its final folio for the academic year, the Seniors Folio, an exclusive collection showcasing the talent of graduating students.

Seniors and super seniors of the Higher Education Cluster are invited to submit written works in either English or Filipino and visual art in any medium.

Deadline for submissions is on or before February 10, 2025.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? 🍃

The Philippines has endured more than its fair share of environmental concerns in 2024 alone: territorial disputes on the West Philippine Sea and Bugsuk Island, rising heat indices that have caused water crises and deaths nationwide, and the continued killing of environmental defenders, to name a few. These are issues that the media has picked up on, but there is a multitude that have fallen with no one to hear it.

The 2024 exhibit If the Walls Can Talk brings to light these unacknowledged narratives through the works of Eunice Sanchez, Kookoo Ramos-Cruda, and Resty Flores. Drawing from investigative reports funded by the Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Reporting Grant, each piece transforms environmental data into a sensory experience, ensuring that the Philippines’ environmental cries are recognized, felt, and understood.

One thing’s universal: life’s no dress rehearsal! 👗✨

Ateneo Blue Repertory’s 33rd season newbie production, the PROM, dazzled with color and wit. Under the direction of Abi Sulit and musical guidance of Maia Dapul, every moment was filled with unapologetic queerness and pride. 🏳️‍🌈🪩

the PROM takes us to a small town in Indiana where a group of Broadway misfits step in to save a teenager’s prom night (and their careers) after Emma Nolan is banned from attending prom with her girlfriends. What follows is a feel-good journey full of love, self-discovery, and acceptance. With humor and heart, the PROM tackles homophobia and bullying, all while celebrating the power of living authentically. 🕺💌

Kahit sino ay puwedeng tumula at kahit ano ay puwedeng tulaan. Ang natitirang tanong na lang ay kung para saan ito.

Kadalasan, ang pagtula ay pagtugon sa mga tanda ng panahon natin. Ngayong Pambansang Araw ng Pagtula, alalahanin natin kung paano tayo pinalaya at patuloy na pinalalaya ng mga tula. Isang mabuting halimbawa rito ang tulang Cable ni Jerome Flor na nailathala sa HEIGHTS Tomo 65 Blg. 1. Gamit ang pag-usisa mga estereotipo ng mga pang-araw-araw na telebisyon, pinahihiwatig ng tula ang panganib ng desensitasyon sa karahasan at trahediya sa gitna ng mga halo-halong palabas.

Pinagdiriwang ang Pambansang Araw ng Pagtula sa Pilipinas tuwing ika-22 ng Nobyembre kasabay ng kaarawan ni Jose Corazon de Jesus o Huseng Batute, isa sa mga makatang tumindig para sa paglaya ng bansa noong Panahon ng mga Amerikano. Nakikiisa ang HEIGHTS Ateneo sa pagdaraos ng araw na ito lalo na sa layunin nitong maghawan ng daan para sa mas maalab na pagpapahalaga ng masa sa pagtula.
