Birmingham Police Officer and Acclaimed Actor Returns Home Partnering with Local Community Organizations to Host A Drive Thru Back To School Giveaway for Washtenaw County Families.
Ypsilanti, MI August 3, 2021---- Lane Harper, Executive Director of the Power of Life Foundation, is a graduate of Ann Arbor Pioneer High school, and after hearing about the high demand of need in the community and the recent flooding, wanted to return home to help families in Washtenaw County.
The Power of Life Foundation, in partnership with Ypsilanti Mayor Lois Richardson, Pastor Harold Wimberly and Christian Love Fellowship Ministries, Washtenaw My Brother’s Keeper, Power of Predestiny Ministries, (P.O.P.) and the Washtenaw County Sherriff’s Office will host a Drive Thru Back to School Giveaway for Washtenaw County Families.
This exciting event powered by these organizations will bring more than 1,000 free backpacks with school supplies, free face masks, hand sanitizers, lunch for 750 people and special treats from local vendors for Washtenaw County and its surrounding areas. The Washtenaw County Health Department will also host a vaccination clinic nearby for those wish to be vaccinated.
Special welcome to guest volunteers: Fatouma Conde, Washtenaw Area Athlete of the Year and Jaliyah Girma-Walls, Madonna University, Women’s Track & Field.

Founded by Lane Harper, Executive Director, and Teresa Berger, Associate/Marketing Director, The Foundation’s goals are: To ensure children have the necessary items needed for a successful school year. To provide free face masks to the entire community. To provide information about the COVID-19 vaccine, and to advise the p***c on taking precautions to avoid contracting the new Delta and Lambda variants that are sweeping the nation affecting younger children and primarily the unvaccinated.
Harper is a critically acclaimed actor, a Birmingham Police Officer, an alumnus of Alabama State University, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a N.O.B.L.E., and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, who has dedicated more than 15 years towards helping at-risk youth and families living at or below the poverty level.
To date the Power of Life Foundation has distributed more than 550,000 free face masks and over 500,000 pounds of food across the southeast United States.
