Our incredible staff made remarkable waves in student journalism this semester!

None of these milestones could have been achieved without the unwavering support from our FSU community, Tallahassee community, and beyond. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the spring!

Per a sweeping directive from Governor Ron DeSantis’ Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, every syllabus for every course at Florida universities, including lectures, discussions and lab courses, must be shared on a single, publicly searchable statewide database. This information about Florida university coursework was due on Dec. 3.

The mandate, issued jointly by the state Florida Board of Governors and the Florida Department of Education, was first announced through an audit sent to university presidents. Universities are scrambling to comply, with administrators searching for existing digital records and pressing individual professors to produce any missing documents.

“As we continue our work to identify opportunities to improve higher education in Florida, we are seeking additional information regarding the rigor and performance of programs, majors, and departments within each university,” the DOGE team wrote in a Nov. 17 letter to the Board of Governors.

Florida State University’s DeVoe L. Moore Center (DMC) has partnered with the Florida Policy Project and the Reason Foundation to tackle Florida’s housing crisis in an innovative way.

This initiative has resulted in an interactive, data-driven website for people to study trends in housing, including local housing trends, shortages in specific housing units and changes in local markets.

“Currently, housing shortage and surplus trends are the key draw for users of the website. When home or rental prices are high, one of the first actionable steps local governments can take is to make sure there is enough housing inventory available,” Crystal Taylor, director of research for the DeVoe L. Moore Center, said to the FSView.
