For the past six years, we have had the pleasure of assembling the largest gathering of HBCU graduates and attendees in the North East; providing thousands of dollars for high-school students who have made the important decision to attend an HBCU of their choice.

As the festival co-founders, we have always taken every possible precaution to ensure the safety of those who attended our nearly weeklong festival. With that still present in our hearts, and in consideration of the current global health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 and safe re-opening protocols, we have decided to commemorate HBCU SpringComing 2021 with a virtual party experience.

My Alma Mater invited me and some buddies to talk about the seminal works that were “A Different World” and “School Daze” and their ENDURING LEGACY. During this clip, I’m speaking about how real the depiction of pledging was in both pieces.

(My opinion was based upon stories I’ve heard, not anything I went through with Perfect S.T.O.R.M. 22)

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated is a non-hazing fraternity. Also Grand Pi Chapter WON the real step show filmed in School Daze but we’re left on the editing room floor. 😶🙃

I was nominated by to take the . These are all the lanyards I can find, but I know there are some more in a road case or duffel somewhere. There are things about the road I truly miss. I’m so glad that I kept collecting these and every room key from every hotel. It’s like having an episode guide for the tour stories I’ll always cherish and always tell.

When you are this close to someone, their birthday feels like your birthday. Sometimes it even feels better. Cliff, this 40th trip around the sun is one of those times. I can’t count all the moments. I can’t remember all the jokes. I can’t find all the photos. But I thank God that they aren’t the ways I keep track of and celebrate our friendship. To the only dude who can open my Mom’s refrigerator and not lose a hand. We have made enough memories for an entire lifetime. Cheesesteak debates, late busses, the Ghost, the Brick, 8ball corner pocket, advernouns, turnpikes, killer crosses, weddings, Wawas, (Jersey Mikes!) funerals, births, Deus, U turns, laughs, tears, SuperBowl parades, toilet texts, Big Jokers, freestyles, proms, prayers, ci**rs, Can-I-Bus lyrics, step teams, Boom Boom Checks, fake names, fake IDs, the Bridge and even a pair of purple adidas swishy pants just to name a few. When I first accepted the invitation to DJ/MC the Summers in South Africa wedding, I’d planned to make a family vacation out of the trip. It was going to be a different kind of Thanksgiving, sure, but our little family of two would be together! Months later, when we were blessed with the news that there would be an addition to our family (I CAN HARDLY TYPE, I’M SO EXCITED!) we decided that shouldn’t travel that far along in her pregnancy. So, I’m headed to the continent, alone for the first time. Now, my main focus is rocking the party—ahem— wedding. But while I’m back in CapeTown, I plan to take my little company on a retreat and I am fully expecting God to blow my mind and direct my path. Pray with me family.

This photo is what it looks like to watch my wife, so beautifully, navigate pregnancy. Those of us around her witness, in awe, as she grows a human—whilst getting on and off planes and stages, attending weddings, facilitating sessions, coaching clients and making time to support her friends with strategy and love filled language. Glowing all the while! We’re watching her in amazement and she just..keeps..glowing.
