Solar Eclipse captures nation’s attention
A total solar eclipse took place across the United States and North America on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Solar eclipse occur when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the Sun on Earth.
Thousands gathered across the path of totality, where a complete eclipse occurs, to catch a glimpse at an astronomical event unseen in the US since 1979 when only five states were in the path of totality.
Spectators grabbed their sun blocking specs to view the brief event for only a few minutes alongside amateur and professional astronomers alike.
A total solar eclipse won’t be visible again from the contiguous US until Aug. 22, 2044, with totality only occurring over North Dakota and Montana, plus northern Canada.
The next total solar eclipse with a coast-to-coast path spanning the Lower 48 states will occur on Aug.12, 2045. The path of totality will arc over California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

The City of Lakes has a long-lasting history that echos among the tall towers we tend to look up at. However, no other skyscraper changed the city like Foshay.

10 years ago, today, our difital news source was born as a role-play account inspired by Superman. Over time it grew into a multimedia news organization that has published hundreds of online editions and digital magazines, imortalized countless stories, and so much more.
The Daily Planet is where heroes are born and the story continues. Catch our full story in a documentary this summer.
Its been nearly 10 years since we saw our start on the Benz family farm in Northern Minnesota. We’ve come a long way since then.
In Feb. 2014 we started our twitter account, which soon unexpectedly grew into a digital news source founded from a simple hobby.
By 2018 that hobby garnered enough support that our website, dailyplanetdc.com, was created as part of a journalism toolbox class at UMD in Duluth, Minnesota.
During the pandemic the Planet received a multitude of contributed works that helped develop it into the multimedia news organization we are today.
We’ve curated over 100 online newspapers, thousands of articles, collaborated with podcasters and vloggers, and generated many digital first magazines.
In celebration of this, we’re giving back to our supporters with giveaways! We’re going to be drawing from a pool of names from our Instagram and TikTok this Spring and Summer!!
We’re also going to be producing our very first documentary telling our not-so-secret origin story!
We can’t thank everyone enough for their support, but we hope this expresses our gratitude in some way! Thanks for everything ♥️🌐
