This is the first Father’s Day without my dad.

They say that death is only a transition to a different dimension. The body dies, but the life force…the spirit, and the soul live on. They become ancestors. They continue on. the relationship continues…. love bonds cannot be broken by death. Love forever entangles our soul to those we love.

I wholeheartedly believe this.

YET…I still wish I had my dad here in the flesh. I miss his hugs. His voice. His jokes. I’m allowing myself to mourn the loss of his physical presence in my life.

I will not spiritually bypass this grief.

I’m allowing myself the privilege of grieving for as long as I need... with all the ebbs and flows that it brings. Unrushed. With tenderness and openness to the tears, memories, and love it may bring.

Reenactment for trauma survivors refers to the unconscious/conscious behavioral repetition of traumatic events or dynamics in their lives. But many people in the kink
community engage in a conscious form of reenactment. The kink community has expertise on reenactment due to their focus on consensual exploration of power dynamics, role-playing, and psychological aspects of sexuality. Within this community, participants engage in negotiated scenes that may involve reenacting scenarios related to past experiences or fantasies, providing insights into the dynamics of reenactment for both personal and therapeutic exploration.

A moving meditation is a form of meditation that involves a specific motion as a way to clear the mind and connect with the present moment. Instead of focusing solely on the breath or a mantra, the meditator brings their awareness to the sensations and movements of their body, which can help bring a greater sense of focus and relaxation. Some people find that movement-based meditation helps them access a deeper state of mindfulness than seated meditation.

This week's meditation is a guided visualization introducing us to shadow work. A shadow work meditation is a type of guided meditation that focuses on exploring the parts of ourselves that we may usually keep hidden or repress. It is a deep and introspective practice that allows us to face those aspects of ourselves that we may deem as negative, shameful or undesirable. By doing shadow work, we allow ourselves to develop a more profound sense of self-awareness and better understand the complexity of our emotions and behaviors, allowing us to grow, heal, and achieve greater personal fulfillment.
