Winter has arrived in the high country!

🎃 Happy Halloween! Time for a scare...

The park road is closed!

Highway 89 through Lassen Volcanic National Park is closed due to snow between Devastated Area (northwest) and Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center (southwest). The road will remain closed at least overnight. Park staff will monitor conditions and reevaluate over the next few days, though more snow is in the forecast through the weekend.

This is not a Halloween trick, it's an annual occurrence. Each year, Lassen's main park road closes with the onset of deep winter snow and reopens in late Spring/early Summer. During this time of year, there is no way to drive through the park.
