Walkabout is an undergraduate-only, student-run publication that showcases the best of undergraduate creative arts from CU Boulder. We accept submission of prose, poetry, and visual arts every fall and publish our annual journal in the spring.

Meet Jenna Beutler: “Hiya! I’m a junior here at CU studying Advertising and Spanish. This is my third year at Walkabout, second as a Co-Editor in Chief. I started as a wee freshman as an art editor, and my timing was perfect as I was co-running the organization the next year. Funny how that works out sometimes. I enjoy photography myself; I’ve been on a bit of a film kick lately, but I’m mostly drawn to art because of my burning jealousy of the insane talent you artists have. I’m working on it. You can catch me binge watching Arrested Development for the nth time, outside enjoying the sunshine, petting dogs, or relentlessly quoting tv (mostly Spongebob if we’re being honest). Hit me up if you ever need someone to be weird with.”

“My name is Leya Kutzer, and I am a junior double majoring in Creative Writing and Media Design, with an engineering minor in Technology Arts and Media. I love anything involving creativity and self expression, from photography and graphic art to poetry, music, and fashion. In my free time, I'm usually designing lighting for musical theater, riding horses, painting intricate designs on my nails, or playing with fonts and color palettes.”

I’m Hayley, I look at your art submissions to Walkabout Creative Arts Journal, and when I’m not doing that, you might find me in the gym at the squash court. If I’m not there, I would check the library, because I like to study religion in Asia and cognitive psychology there (like in this picture). Still didn’t find me? You might try Trident, I am also there a lot, since I like to read and drink coffee.

I'm David Pounds. I've been practicing figure drawing since somewhere before high school and have spent too much time Photoshop for my own good. Beyond that I'm a writer and a Junior. I spend most of my time doing college things like studying and homework, sometimes test taking.

Hey everyone! My name is Sarah Liddle and I'm a junior here at CU studying in Applied Math and minoring in Creative Writing. I've loved writing ever since I was a kid, beginning in second grade when I wrote stories for my best friend about the adventures of my dog. My goal a a writer is to be some strange and impossible combination between Stephen King and Annie Dillard, and I love reading anything and everything within that spectrum. When I'm not writing or doing math, I enjoy hiking, camping, and helping out at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.

Hello all! I'm Sami and I'm a senior here at CU Boulder majoring in English Literature and Japanese. I love reading, writing, music, art, gaming, and collecting way too many mugs that I never use. Dogs give me life. I played the tuba all through high school and my first year of college (and am also 5'2" - let that sink in). I love reading all kinds of content, be it that cheesy love story you've been fantasizing about or an abject thriller about a man with toes for eyes that has haunted your dreams since you were five; I like it all. So, what are you doing? Pick up that pen and write your passion, no matter how weird! I'll be here to read it.

My name is Alana Faller, but everyone calls me Ally. I am an English (creative writing track) major, a TAM engineering major, and a business minor (yes it is a lot, no I don't know what I'm going to do with it!). I am working as a poetry and prose editor here at Walkabout, and have a lifelong passion for literature. My other interests include basically all outdoor sports (climbing, skiing, running...), but especially cycling. I firmly believe that everything you need to know in life, you can either learn from a book or a bike. Read and ride on!

Hey there! My name is Jess Nieberg. I'm majoring in Creative Writing and this is my first year editing for Walkabout. I'm an avid dog lover and a green tea addict. When I'm not petting dogs, I'm probably at a poetry slam or event. I spent the past summer as a team member on Denver Mercury's poetry slam team, taking 14th in the world at the National Poetry Slam. I'm stoked to read all the wonderful poems that will simultaneously tear my heart to pieces and put it back together.

I'm Ashley Schmid, one of the poetry editors for Walkabout at CU! I will graduate in May (can I get an AMEN?) with a BA in English- Creative Writing and a minor in education. Recently, I've changed my mindset about poetry, seeing it as not only a beautiful thing, but a necessary thing, for everyone to both write and experience. I can't wait to see the works that students create!

My life in poetry started listening to my father reading Elliot, Williams, and Kafka. Who knew that would manifest itself into a lifelong interest. I have been avidly writing poetry for six years, being published twice on online literary journals. I am an active outdoorsman as well, enjoying backpacking, rock climbing, skiing, and cave exploration.
