Author Will Alford cruises up the first ascent of Logical Defense at the Fortress, Old Rag.

Will wrote, "This very aesthetic route climbs through a great variety of granite features. Commit to the difficult bouldery start that leads to a hand crack that eventually deposits you on a jug below the first bolt. Make a cryptic sequence past the second bolt. Move around the arete to reach a finger crack. Follow the finger crack up to a short slab and the bolt anchor."

You'll find more detailed descriptions like this of many hidden gems in the Southeast's premier climbing destination.

It's August now, but Sendtember is right around the corner. Today we turned our calendar to Margo Hayes.

Margo was the first woman to climb 5.15a with La Rambla in 2017 and, in the same year, sent Biographie, her second of the grade. In 2019 she sent Papichulo, her third.

Ahh! Time flies when you're enjoying summer. How is it nearly August?! We turn our calendar page to one and only Ashima Shiraishi.

Ashima was a youth prodigy who bouldered a V10 at age eight, and a V12 at age nine. She then became the youngest person to climb 5.14c at age eleven, and the world's first female to climb V15 at age fifteen.

The bouldering at Lincoln Lake is, in a word: adventure. Despite the easy drive and sort approach, it is an extremely complex area and a true alpine zone. With many of the world-class boulders hidden in the depths of talus fields, it can seem intimidating to visit.
