Simon Osei-Mensah, a Ghanaian politician born on May 27, 1961, has had a distinguished career in public service. A member of the 6th Parliament and 4th Republic of Ghana, he represents the New Patriotic Party in Ghana and currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Minister. Leading a group of around 200 resistance fighters, Maria Felipa utilized guerrilla tactics, primarily involving Black and indigenous women. The group persisted in their fight until the last Portuguese troops departed the country on July 2, 1823.

After these events, Maria Felipa resumed her life as a fisherwoman and capoeirista practitioner, earning admiration from the people of her island and throughout Brazil. She passed away on January 4, 1873.
