Ayivu East Constituency MP Hon Feta Geofrey has on Thursday 3-October-2024 extended to Parliament, the cry and demand of people from Northern Uganda who have been affected by Uganda Wild Life Authority's decision to charge 25,000 Shs each on Passengers traveling to or from Northern Uganda, mainly Acholi Sub-region and WestNile Sub-region using the road via Luwero-Kafu - Murchison Falls National Park after Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) completely closed Karuma Bridge for three months pending maintenance on the Bridge which has outlived its 50 years Life span.
The furious Hon Feta who also doubles as the Chairperson for WestNile Parliamentary Caucus insinuated that, they have evidence where, some vehicles that used that route via Murchison Falls National Park before the tragedy of Karuma Bridge befell the region, have been using this route through the Park for free without charging the car or people in the car.
In her defense, the Prime Minister Rt Hon Robina Nabbanja explained that, the heavy traffic through Murchison Falls National Park would scare away the wild animals to run out of the park, a statement which the Prime Minister didn't explain clearly how this has tantamounted to charging the passengers in private and public vehicles at the rate of 25,000 Shs per person.
She further stated that, she was supposed to held a meeting with MPs from WestNile region this Thursday 3-October-2024 but has failed, without giving a reason why the meeting flopped.
She added that, President Museveni tasked her to gather all the complaints and explanations arising from this issue and she will present it for discussion and proper decision making in the next cabinet sitting which will take place on Monday 7-October-2024.
