This was inspired by today’s gospel reading of the rich young man, who went to Jesus asking him what must he do to inherit eternal life. Scripture tells us that Jesus looked at him and loved him. I believe Jesus is looking at all of us in the very same way, with that look of love; that searching look of love. What is he asking of us to surrender in order to have a deeper and more profound relationship with him?

Teach us, we ask you, humility of heart so we may be counted among the little ones of the Gospel, to whom the Father promised to reveal the mysteries of his Kingdom.

Help us to pray without ceasing, certain that God knows what we need even before we ask him.

Obtain for us the eyes of faith that will be able to recognize right away in the poor and suffering the face of Jesus.

Sustain us in the hour of the combat and of the trial and, if we fall, make us experience the joy of the sacrament of forgiveness.

Grant us your tender devotion to Mary, the Mother of Jesus and our Mother.

Accompany us on our earthly pilgrimage toward the blessed homeland, where we hope to arrive in order to contemplate forever the glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

This weekend's readings provide a powerful call to all Christians, inviting us to reflect deeply on our discipleship and how we live out our faith. Over the past few weeks, the Gospel has repeatedly challenged us to embrace a more radical and authentic form of discipleship. Today’s readings continue in that same vein, calling us to humility, trust, and service as essential components of following Jesus.

St. Paul speaks with profound clarity about embracing the cross, and while his words can be inspiring, the practical question many of us wrestle with is: How do we actually embrace the cross in our daily lives? It’s one thing to hear the call to carry our crosses, but it’s another to understand how we are meant to live this out. After all, nobody naturally seeks out suffering or hardship.

17/09/2024

Crosses and suffering are integral to the Christian journey because they unite us with Christ, purify and strengthen us, and lead us to greater love, humility, and transformation. Through the cross, we learn dependence on God, and our faith is tested and refined. Most importantly, our crosses are not meaningless burdens but are avenues of grace that, when embraced, bring us closer to the heart of God and to the promise of resurrection. Suffering, though difficult, is not without purpose in God’s plan. It becomes a vehicle for growth in holiness and love, and it shapes us into the image of Christ.

This is why the cross is not something to avoid but something to embrace. Through it, we find life, transformation, and ultimately, eternal joy in union with Christ.

Tomorrow we will continue on "Taking Up Your Cross And Following Jesus."

God Bless

The idea of taking up one’s cross daily and following Jesus lies at the very heart of Christian discipleship. Crosses represent the struggles, trials, and sacrifices that each of us faces in life. These are the moments when our faith is tested, when we are challenged to surrender our will to God, ...
