Poland’s National Independence Day, observed on November 11, marks the country’s regained sovereignty in 1918 after 123 years of partitions. Between 1772 and 1795, Poland was divided among the Russian Empire, Prussia, and the Habsburg Monarchy, ceasing to exist as an independent state. Following World War I and the subsequent collapse of these occupying powers, Poland took advantage of the political changes to reestablish itself as an independent nation.
On November 11, 1918, Józef Piłsudski, a key military leader, assumed command of the Polish armed forces, symbolizing Poland's return to the map of Europe!
