While The Legend of Maula Jatt was all about the rivalry between the Natts and the Jatts, it wasn’t just the strong display of masculinity that made the film a blockbuster but also its modern take on empowered femininity that led the Bilal Lashari directorial to be a chart-buster.
Actor Mahira Khan, who plays Mukkho Natt in the film, spoke to Variety about how her character was different from the one in the original 1979 Younis Malik’s Maula Jatt. “The biggest thing that Mukkho had was that she was just such an empowered woman – she loved fearlessly, her moral compass was so intact, she had integrity and she was fierce also,” she exclaimed with pride. “That was a very big thing that the women in today’s Maula Jatt are very empowered.”
The Raees actor revealed that prior to the film’s release, a lot of fans and media questioned her whether the women in the film will follow the same regressive route that the 1970s cult classic did. “A lot of people asked me prior to the release that ‘Are we going to see the same 1970s representation of women? I said, no, you’re going to see Bilal Lashari’s representation of women.’ I’m glad to have been a part of it.”
The Legend of Maula Jatt is officially Pakistan’s highest-grossing film of all time. About how the team felt about the global success of the film, Khan added that while the magnitude of it was unexpected, it is also not surprising. “It is the quintessential reaction to a good film,” she said about the positive feedback that the makers received from not just fans across the globe but also Bollywood actors, directors and more.
2022 was particularly a big year for the Pakistani entertainment industry with The Legend of Maula Jatt’s global success and Saim Sadiq’s Joyland’s Oscar selection. Commenting on the future of the film industry, Khan called these filmmakers “passionate visionaries” and exclaimed that the industry needs more of them for every year to be the blockbuster that 2022 was.

Two years after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, a person who was present in the morgue when the actor's body was brought in for a post-mortem, has claimed that Sushant was in fact, murdered.

In an interview with TV9 Marathi, mortuary worker Roopkumar Shah said that the whole thing “should have been videographed” because there were marks of assault in two to three places on Sushant’s body and it appeared as though his “hands and legs had been broken.”
Roopkumar recalled, “After Sushant's death, five bodies were brought for post-mortem. We were told that there is a VIP body in it, but it was not known earlier. When I saw Sushant's body, I told the seniors that I think it is not su***de but murder. That's why we should work in the same way. But I was told that you do your work and I will do mine. My job was to cut and sew the body, which I did.”
He added, “That entire post-mortem should have been videographed but sir said he wanted to work on the photographs and hand over the body as soon as possible. That's how we did the post-mortem at night." Elaborating further, Roopkumar alleged that when Sushant’s clothes were removed, there were injury marks on two to three places on his neck.
“It seemed as if the hands and legs were broken due to beating…There were deep injury marks on the body. The video shoot was to happen but whether it did or not…Seniors were also asked to work on the photos only. So, we worked on it,” he lamented.
Reacting to it, Sushant's lawyer Vikas Singh has told Times of India, "I will not be able to comment on the same as the sisters have not told me about it. But I maintain that Sushant Singh Rajput's death was not a simple su***de as there was conspiracy behind it. And only CBI will be able to unravel the conspiracy behind his death."
Sushant was found dead in his Bandra home on June 14, 2020. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to investigate his death, which has been ruled as a su***de. However, no closure report has been filed in the matter so far by the agency.

Japanese bike-maker Yamaha Motor Pakistan notified an increase in prices of its two-wheelers by up to Rs13,500, driven by import restrictions and spike in cost of production of automobiles.

According to a notification sent to the bike dealers, the new rates will be effective from January 4, 2023.

The company jacked up the price of YB125Z model by Rs12,000 to Rs305,500. The firm also hiked the rate of YB125Z DX variant to Rs327,000 from Rs314,500.

The prices of YBR125, YBR125G and YBR125G (matt dark gray) models have been jacked up by Rs13,500 to Rs336,000, Rs349,500 and Rs352,500 respectively.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Cristiano Ronaldo "stands for the Pal*estinian cause" and bemoaned the Portugal forward being dropped to the bench at the World Cup in Qatar.

Erdogan was speaking at a youth rally at a university campus on Sunday when he was asked his thoughts on the World Cup, Argentina's Lionel Messi and Ronaldo.

"They have wasted Ronaldo," he replied. "Unfortunately, they have imposed a political ban on him. Sending a footballer like Ronaldo onto the pitch with just 30 minutes remaining in the match ruined his psychology and took away his energy."

Erdogan, a former semi-professional footballer in Turkey, is well known for his love of the game.

"Ronaldo is someone who stands for the Pal*estinian cause," said Erdogan, though it was unclear if he was linking the supposed "political ban" to the footballer's support for Palestine.

Pakistan’s Bahria Boat Building Yard has launched its first 12T marine assault boat at the Karachi facility.

The surveillance boat will be used by patrolling teams as it aimed to help strengthen Pakistan Navy fleet.

A report in ArabNews, quoting officials with direct knowledge of the project, claimed that the country’s first locally-made 12T multipurpose marine assault boat was launched as part of a technology transfer deal with Polish shipbuilder Techno Marine.

The advanced assault boats are designed to resist the pe*******on of weapons and are powered by twin engines with water jet propulsion. These vessels can carry more than a dozen persons at a time and are equipped with the latest navigation system.

More than 13 meters in length and 3.50 in width, these vessels can move speedily in coastal waters for surveillance. Additional features of these assault boats are firefighting in case of any emergency in the sea as it comes with fire cannon besides acting as a sea ambulance to rescue people from a ship or the open sea.

Amid external account challenges, Pakistan borrowed about $5.115 billion in foreign loans in the first five months (July-November) of the current fiscal year, almost 14pc higher than the foreign loans it received in the comparable period last year.

In its monthly report on Foreign Economic Assistance (FEA), the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) said it received about $5.115bn foreign assistance in 5MFY23 compared to $4.499bn in the same period last year.

In November alone, Pakistan received $842 million from foreign inflows compared to $794m in the same month last year, a rise of 6pc.

As such, the total inflows at $5.115bn in 5MFY23 amounted to just 22.4pc of the budget estimates of $22.817bn for the entire year.

Dubai has retained itself as the leading hub for residence and citizenship by investment (RCBI) for the second year, making itself stand out again.

The recognition comes as over 150,000 Golden Visas have been issued by the Emirati authorities according to a report by Swiss boutique firm Passport Legacy.

The report states that UAE leads the world with 35 international RCBI specialists in 2022, climbing up from 30 in the previous year.

It highlighted that the nation will be able to “sustain its growth with the minimum investment required recently having been reduced and access being opened up to talented individuals across multiple industries”.

An Israe*li startup that is developing an electric flying vehicle for consumers said a prototype aircraft successfully completed its first unmanned cruise flight, which the company says puts it on a path for the rollout of manned aircraft in the next two years.

The Pardes Hanna-based startup, called AIR, said it is on track to deliver the first batch of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft by the end of 2024 after this week’s transition from hovering test flights to the horizontal cruise tests, which were conducted near Beersheba under the supervision of the Civil Aviation Authority.

The startup’s AIR ONE is an all-electric two-seater eVTOL with a range of 110 miles (177 km) on a single charge at speeds of up to 155 miles (250 kilometers) per hour, at an altitude of 1,200 feet and a flight time of one hour. The aircraft, which already has an airworthiness certificate, has collapsible wings for easy parking and can take off from or land on any flat surface. It is tailored for personal use and seeks to offer an everyday alternative for short distance commuting in the sky.

“It is thrilling to have reached this moment in our journey as we strive to build the foundation to make personal air mobility a reality,” said AIR CEO and co-founder Rani Plaut.
