Professor Dr. Jan Alam from Karimabad Hunza has been promoted to BPS-21, currently serving at Hazara University.

Dr. Jan Alam has spent 24 years of his professional life in the fields of botany, plant conservation, and ethnobotany. He has a staggering 70 research papers to his name that focus on medicinal plants and traditional knowledge from the . His work, which has taken him through the mountains and meadows of the Himalayas and ranges, has helped protect valuable plant species and preserve important cultural heritage.

He has also mentored over 60 Ph.D. and M.Phil. students, inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders in Pakistan.

Dr. Jan Alam is currently working on a book in Burushaski language that will showcase the unique plants of Hunza Valley. The book will combine local knowledge, stunning images, and scientific insights, with an English translation so it can reach a global audience. This project aims to shine a light on both the conservation of these plants and the rich cultural heritage of the .

Havaldar Sarfraz Karim, a brave soldier of Pakistan Army, was martyred while fighting with terrorists on Pak-Afghan border yesterday. He was buried today with full military honors in Mohammadabad Danyore, Gilgit. Shaheed Havaldar Sarfaraz Karim belonged to Aliabad Hunza.

Harvard University students visited the Hunza Valley to explore the rich history of Altit Fort and its ancient heritage. During their visit to the historic settlement of Altit, they were briefed by Mr. Irfan, President of the Altit Town Management Society, who shared fascinating insights into the site's past and present. The students were particularly interested in learning about the role of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and the impactful projects led by Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan, which have significantly improved the living conditions of the local community.

The visit also included a stop at Ciqam Green Solutions, where Aqila Bano highlighted the vital role of women empowerment initiatives in the region.

Major General Muneer Ud Din, Director General of Foreign Military Cooperation, has been awarded with Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) by the Government of Pakistan for his dedicated service to the nation.

Maj. Gen. Muneer Ud Din has roots in Hunza whose family later settled in Sultanabad, Gilgit. He is the son of Aalija Ghulam Uddin Ghulam Hunzai, the renowned Burushaski scholar, poet, writer, and translator of Holy Quran into Burushaski language.

Latest Update on Islamabad-Gilgit-Baltistan route via Babusar Pass.

Strong floods following the torrential Monsoon rains have completely damaged Mahandri Bridge in Kaghan Valley cutting off the shorter alternative route between Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan via Babusar Pass. Travelers and tourists have been advised to refrain from using this route and take KKH via Kohistan until proper crossing arrangements are made.

2 people missing after a wooden bridge collapses in Khananad, Lower Hunza district of Gilgit-Baltistan.

A wooden bridge in Khanabad, Hunza collapsed, resulting in a loading vehicle falling into the Hunza river. 2 people including the driver have reportedly gone missing. The local community along with authorities are on a search for the missing.

Just days prior to the catastrophe, a resident had recorded a video highlighting the deteriorating state of the wooden bridge. The footage vividly depicted the dire condition and imminent danger posed by the bridge. Despite the stark warning, no measures were taken to address the issue.

This tragic incident underscores the critical necessity of replacing aging wooden bridges with more resilient reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures. RCC bridges offer superior strength and durability, significantly reducing the risk of such catastrophic failures.

Riazat Ali Shah with roots in the Hunza district of Gilgit-Baltistan led Uganda to an important victory with a brilliant performance. Uganda beat Zimbabwe in a major upset in the African Qualifier for T20 World Cup 2024.

Born in Gilgit, Riazat Ali Shah is the son of Gilgit-Baltistan's well-known businessman Hidayat Shah. He has been playing domestic and international cricket for the Ugandan team for the past several years.
