Aniya ay nakatanggap ng sunod-sunod na tawag at mensahe ang Tanglaw mula sa kanilang Campus Director, Head of Student Services, at kanilang Adviser (na isa sa kanilang Head of Academic Affairs), upang pilitang tanggalin sa page ang kanilang column na tumatalakay sa "mababang partisipasyon ng mga estudyante sa liderato sa mga pang-akademikong organisasyon sa kanilang kampus. Ayon dito, iilan lamang ang tumatakbo sa iba’t ibang mga organisasyon sa PUP SRC dahil sa 'overwhelming responsibilities' buhat ng bigat ng mga rekisitong pang-akademiko, mababang self confidence dahil sa takot na matalo ng mas kilalang kalaban, at 'desire for autonomy' dahil sa restriksyon at limitasyon sa mga programa at aktibidad na maari nilang gawin. Mayroon pang pagkakataong dalawang buwang bakante ang mga posisyon kaya napipilitan ang Kampus na pumalagay sa appointment system."

"Isang Kaibigan" is a story that revolves around an owl and a parrot. A violent storm wrecked the owl's house, and the parrot rescued him and provided temporary shelter.

This isn't just a simple story of feathered companionship. The owl represents the Filipino people—resilient yet vulnerable in the face of nature's wrath. And the parrot? It's meant to be none other than the Vice President herself, swooping in with promises of aid and comfort.

A noble sentiment, to be sure. The Vice President is a friend to all, extending a helping hand in times of crisis. It paints a pretty picture, doesn't it? It's almost as pretty as a parrot's plumage.

Here comes the twist in our tale: As Typhoon Carina unleashed its fury upon the Philippines on July 22, 2024, where was our metaphorical parrot? Not in our sight, offering shelter. Not braving the wind to bring sustenance to those in need. While Filipinos battled heavy wind and rain, the Vice President was nowhere to be found within the nation's borders.

Is this the true meaning of friendship as envisioned by our Vice President? To be absent when the storm is at its fiercest? To offer pretty words in a storybook while leaving the real-life owls to fend for themselves?

A controversy surrounding the departure of Chinese national Alice Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, has erupted, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of Philippine immigration procedures.

Senator Risa Hontiveros, revealed that Guo had already left the country on July 18, 2024, traveling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Senator presented documentation confirming Guo's entry into Malaysia at 12:17:13 PM on July 18, matching her Philippine passport details.

Further investigation revealed that Guo subsequently traveled to Singapore, where she met with her parents, Lin Wen Yi and Guo JianZhong, who had arrived from China on July 28, 2024. The senator alleged that Guo's family reunion in Singapore also included Wesley Guo and Cassandra Ong, suggesting a coordinated effort to facilitate her escape.

The senator expressed deep concern, questioning how Guo was able to leave the country despite a ban announced by the President. She highlighted that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) had assured both her and the Senate President Pro Tempore that Guo would not be allowed to depart.

"Who allowed this travesty to happen?" the senator stated. "Parang nagpasampal tayo sa dayuhang ito na paulit ulit sinasaula ang ating mga batas, patakaran at proseso."

Hontiveros also emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Guo's departure, particularly focusing on potential involvement of government officials. She called for accountability, stating that the failure to prevent Guo's escape is a serious breach of trust and undermines the integrity of the country's immigration system.

The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and calls for a comprehensive review of immigration protocols. The Philippine government faces mounting pressure to address the issue and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

The interview with Attorney Stephen David and Department of Justice, assuring that Guo is still in the Philippines, has recently added to this Government drama.

𝘽𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎|| A new 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝘅 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀 case has been reported in the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Sunday, August 18. The case involves a 33-year-old Filipino male who developed symptoms three weeks after having close, intimate contact. This latest case brings the total number of confirmed MPOX cases in the country to 10. The patient exhibited symptoms including fever, rashes, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared mpox a global public health emergency following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since January 2022—38,465 cases have been reported across 16 African countries, with 1,456 deaths recorded.

After over two weeks of showcasing world-class talents, Team Philippines secured 2 gold and 2 bronze medals in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, making them the Top performing Southeast Asian country at the event.

Followed by Indonesia with 2 gold medals and 1 bronze. Thailand with 1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. while Malaysia and Singapore each brought home 2 and 1 bronze medals, respectively.

The Philippines ended their Olympic campaign in 37th place overall, courtesy of 2 gold medals from Carlos Yulo in Artistic Gymnastics for floor exercise and vault. And 2 bronze medals each from Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petacio in boxing under women’s 50 kg and 57 kg classes, respectively.

Carlos Yulo is now a two-time Olympic gold medalist after clinching another gold at the Men's Artistic Gymnastics -Vault Finals in the Paris 2024 Olympics on Sunday, August 4 (PH time).

Yulo scored an average of 15.116 points, starting with a massive 15.433 in his first vault, which leads him in the top spot. He followed this with a score of 14.800 in his second vault, expanding his lead and securing his place on the podium.

Armenia's Artur Davtyan claimed the silver medal with an average score of 14.966, while Great Britain's Harry Hepworth earned the bronze with a score of 14.949.

The Filipino gymnast made history as the first athlete from the Philippines to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals, after reigning in the men's floor exercise last Saturday.

Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo clinched the first gold medal for the Philippines at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the Men's Artistic Gymnastics - Floor Exercise Finals on Saturday, August 3, (PH Time).

Delivering an incredible performance, Yulo earned a score of 15.000, securing the top spot on the podium.

Yulo's victory marks a historic achievement as he becomes the first Filipino to win a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and the second Filipino to capture an Olympic gold, following Hidilyn Diaz’s groundbreaking triumph in weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

We are pleased to announce the successful closure of our donation drive for PUP students affected by the recent typhoon "𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮".

: Naghatid ng tulong ang Society of Public Administration students from Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Quezon City ng hot meals at relief goods sa higit 1,000 individuals sa Aranzasu, Montalban, Rizal Evacuation Center.
