A passenger plane overshot the runway at Busuanga Airport in Coron, Palawan according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The CAAP stated that 57 people—53 passengers and four crew members—were on board when the incident occurred at July 14 at 2:52 p.m.
Initial assessments by CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio indicate that the cause was “hydroplaning.”
Hydroplaning happens when a vehicle or aircraft’s tires ride on a thin layer of water, causing them to lose contact with the pavement and resulting in a sudden loss of control.
