CORDILLERANS QUESTS FOR AUTONOMY

CORDILLERANS QUESTS FOR AUTONOMY

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: from the indigenous knowledge systems that persisted from time immemorial to the present day, to resisting the attempts of the Spanish to enter our mountains, to negotiations and struggles during the American colonial period, to lobbying and establishing the bases of Cordillera autonomy under the Philippine state and government. We owe it to the generations before us and the generations after us to continue and achieve this objective of an autonomous Cordillera region.

As we enter a new (and perhaps politically fraught) year, let us keep in mind the storied history behind the rights we are able to freely exercise and promote. Let us dream with those who dreamed before us, and let us continue the work of those who have lent their hand in the building of the Cordillera.
