What an amazing weekend for the team at Loud Noise Media. After months of planning, we just completed our first Digital Māori Storytellers Wānanga for whānau and rangatahi within the region.

We started at Omaka Marae on Friday evening, learning about the rich tapestry of pūrākau and kõrero within the wharenui. This provided the framework for us to then go out onto the whenua the next day, with the goal of capturing some of these stories in a digital format.

Whanau were provided with basic training on how to operate our cameras/videography equipment, how to conduct interviews, how to use sound and lighting equipment, drones etc.

They were then split into 2 teams and issued with a challenge to go out and create a short film or doco inspired by the kōrero they had learned from Omaka on Friday night.

The results were nothing short of amazing, with one of the pieces being a short film about the arrival of our tupuna, Kupe, and the other being a short documentary about our tupuna, Te Hau.

A huge mihi to all those whānau and rangatahi that attended, with a special shout out to Nanny Margaret Bond and Omaka Marae for their support.

We'd also like to thank Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu for enabling and assisting us to provide this opportunity for our whānau.

Huge shoutout to these incredibly talented artists, Big Sima and and Boomtown. This was the first music video we have done and so it was an honour to work along side you all to achieve your vision.

This is an awesome example of whānau and friends coming together to work on a project for the purpose of achieving a common goal.

Tyler Redmond, thank you for your magical skills and contributions with camera/cinematography.

Thanks to Sawmill Studios for providing us with the space to to shoot in.

Thank you Lenny, Kaia, Eli, Joe and the rest of the Manu squad for coming down to the local awa and running through your motions.

An extra huge shout out to my talented, super star niece, Icey Bradley-Kiwi (mum too - Blaise Bradley) who put an amazing routine together for this shoot!

A special mention to Tuia 250 ki Totaranui for allowing us to use their animation from our film back in 2019, following the journey of Kupe to Aotearoa.

He tangata, he tangata, my people yeh my people!
