COAS URGES FIELD COMMANDERS TO SCALE UP FIGHT AGAINST INSECURITY

In a charged by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja to Nigerian Army Field Commanders at all levels to scale up efforts in tackling insecurity challenges and improving the protection of Nigerians from unconventional threats.

Lagbaja said this during the closing ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference at the Command Guest House, held in Maiduguri.

According to his statement, Lagbaja ordered an immediate shoring up of measures aimed at enhancing military operations and ensuring the safety and protection of citizens.

He also urged commanders to devise comprehensive plans to deal decisively with adversaries within their Areas of Responsibility and exercise restraint when dealing with law-abiding citizens whom the Army was constitutionally charged to protect.

The statement added, "The COAS, on behalf of officers and soldiers of the NA expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his staunch support to the NA and assured of the unflinching loyalty and commitment of the NA to the defence of democracy and upholding the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

CUSTOMS CONFERENCE VP SHETTIMA, SANWO-OLU ATTEND.

Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,Kashim Settima and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, attended the opening of the ongoing 2023 Comptroller General of Customs' Conference in Lagos.

This was revealed in photos shared on the official X handle of the Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday, with a theme for this year's conference which started on Wednesday "Leveraging Data Analytics for Secure and Efficient Trade Facilitation in Customs Operations."

According to NCS, the Vice President is representing President Bola Tinubu, who is the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

In his welcome address, the Chief host of the 2023 CGC’s Conference, CGC Bashir Adeniyi said, "Nigeria Service will remain sleepless until we meet our goal for international trade standard.”

WE'LL COLLABORATE WITH THE EFCC TO FIGHT CORRUPTION PLEDGES BY THE NOA.

Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has announce the readiness of his agency to work closely with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in its fight against economic and financial crimes.

This was shared on a Facebook post on Thursday, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's.

This assurance was given by Issa-Onilu on Wednesday, at a two-day Stakeholder’s Retreat on re-engineering NOA programmes for more effective reorientation of Nigerians towards addressing challenges

According to him, statistics have shown that many Nigerian youths have been convicted for internet-related offences in recent years.

Issa-Onilu was quoted as saying, "NOA’s main objective is to ensure that government’s programmes and policies are well communicated for better understanding by the general public.

“Under my leadership, we as Agency will utilise our facilities, and our human resources to achieve government objectives. We would act as a megaphone to take the message of the government to the expected recipients.

"The menace of internet fraud and corruption generally is a big minus to the image of the country, we shall work very closely with the EFCC to achieve results, to a very reasonable extent, because a corruption-free society is achievable."

Lagos Dislodges Street Traders, Clears Shanties

Lagos State Environmental officials Sanitation Corps and the state's Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences have dislodged street traders operating on drainage setbacks and razed down shanties in different areas of the state.

This was disclosed by the spokesperson for the state's Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adeshina, in post shared on his X handle on Thursday.

Adeshina wrote, "Acting on directives of HC MOE&WR, Tokunbo Wahab, operatives of LAGESC/KAI recently dislodged illegal street traders displaying wares on walkway and drainage setbacks at Toyin street lkeja and Medical Junction along Airport Way, Ikeja in contravention of state sanitation laws."

Adeshina wrote In a separate post, "Acting on the directives of HC MOE&WR, Tokunbo Wahab, operatives of the Lagos Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences, Thursday cleared shanties at the Toll gate area of Victoria Island."

Lagos State Government Seeks Youth Involvement In Tackling Security Challenges

The Lagos State Government has started the need to involve a greater percentage of youths in addressing security challenges to ensure a safer and secure environment.

This was disclosed in a statement posted on the website of the Lagos State Government on Saturday.

According to the statement, the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, announce this on Friday, during her maiden meeting with the leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee, Lagos State Command held at the Cabinet Office, Alausa, Ikeja.

It read, "The SSG told the PCRC Chairman, Kehinde Showemimo, and the Supervising Heads of the 14 Area Commands that statistics have proven that Nigeria has a huge youth population and to enjoy the demographic dividends, the youth must be positively engaged as the future of the nation.

"She said, 'The youths are known for their strength and energetic presence anywhere they are, and bringing them on board will further make the work of the PCRC and other stakeholders easier.'

"She added that the youths are also technologically savvy and can bring their knowledge to bear in the area of infrastructural security that will further change the narratives of security in Lagos State and Nigeria.

"The youths can also be engaged in carrying out the PCRC mandate of interfacing between the Police and the citizens."

NIGERIA CUSTOMS FEMALE BASKETBALL TEAM QUALIFIES FOR AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN EGYPT.

The Nigeria Customs Service female basketball team is set to represent the country in the upcoming Continent Championship scheduled for December 11 in Egypt.

This was shared on the official X handle of the NCS on Wednesday, which according to the statement, this development comes as the team secured the championship title in the FIBA Africa Zone 3 competition, which brought together formidable basketball teams across the nation.

It read, "The journey to victory for the NCS female basketball team included decisive wins against the ASPAC Female Basketball Club of Benin Republic and MFM Basketball Club.

"During the tournament with ASPAC basketball club of Benin Republic, the Nigeria Customs team secured a 65-48 (24-14, 7-9, 21-8, 13-17) points victory in the Africa Women Basketball League Zone 3 qualifiers at MO Arena in Abuja.

"Representing the Customs Service at the event was DCG Enforcement Inspection and Investigation, Mohammed Abba-Kura, who stood in for the CGC. In search of greener pastures On Tuesday, alarm was raised by the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria's Universities that most departments and units in public universities were short staffed due to the resignation of lecturers.

In a statement with the chairman of the union , Prof. Ayo Akinwole "the condition of Nigeria's public universities is pitiable for it is more stressful and frustrated for lectures.

ANOTHER N1.5BN IS RELEASES BY GOVERNOR ENO FOR RETIRED WORKERS

Governor Umo Eno has directed the immediate release of an additional 1.5bn naira for payment of outstanding gratuities of retired workers in the State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ekerete Udoh who broke the news, said it was a further confirmation of the Governor’s resolve to fulfill his pact with workers in the State.

During his campaign, Pastor Eno had promised to continue paying backlog of gratuity from where his immediate predecessor in office had stopped.

Before the current release, 5.3 Billion naira had been released by the Governor for retired workers in the State, an attestation to the Governor’s humane disposition to the people of the State.

Few weeks ago, an additional one month salary otherwise called 13th month salary, or “ Enomber” was approved for civil servants in the State, to bring Christmas cheers.

Governor Umo Eno, has, in under six months in office, touched on the critical pillars of the ARISE Agenda, especially in rural development, education, healthcare, security and infrastructural maintenance.

DANGOTE REFINERY IN LEKKI WOULD START REFINING OF ABOUT 350,00 BARRELS OF CRUDE OIL.

The $20bn refinery in , will start refining by December with about 350,000 barrel of crude oil per day said by Aliko Dangote, the President and Chief Executive officer of Dangote company.

This was announce by Dangote, during an interview section with a Financial Times which he also stated that the refinery would receive about 6 million barrels of crude oil by December 2023.

He said the company has resolved every challenge about crude oil supply and now ready for listing.
