The President and founder of Mary Slessor-AkanGlo foundation, Dr. Glory Edet, on Friday, 5th April, 2024, presented cash packages and gift items to the family of Mr/Mrs Imoh Dan Mkpoikot of Etim Ekpo LGA, who resides at Mbierebe Obio and were recently blessed with a set of quintuplets, (5 babies).

The presentation was done by the representative of the founder, who is the coordinator of Mary Slessor-AkanGlo foundation, Mrs Jane Mike.

with financial business support

In line with its aims and objectives, which include caring for multiple birth children, widows and the less-privileged, the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG) in celebration of the 2024 International Women's Day has empowered over 300 selected widows with financial support for small businesses.

Presenting the packages at a colourful empowerment programme tagged "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress", which was held at Governor's Office Annex, Wellington Bassey Way, Monday, March 11, the Founder/President of the Foundation and former Dean of Commissioners/Special Advisers in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Glory Edet eulogized the impacts of the legendary Scottish Missionary to Nigeria, extolling how she stopped the killing of twins, alongside her great impacts to humanity and society. Dr. Edet also stated that the aim of the Foundation is to support the less privileged, including multiple birth children and parents, persons with disabilities, students, youths, women, etc, who are in need within the capacity of the Foundation. Among other responsibilities, she said, are to restore hope to the hopeless and the oppressed through counselling, skills acquisition, etc.

She further lauded Governor Umo Eno for his support and continuous empowerment to Akwa Ibom women and also eulogized the wife of the governor, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno for using her pet projet, Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) to touch the lives of Akwa Ibom women.

"We have different programmes in our Foundation. We’ve paid school fees for students, empowered young farmers with seedlings and grant to widows last year. Today, we are empowering another 300 widows with business grants and other supports to start up small businesses or expand existing ones", she said.

She charged the beneficiaries to make use of the business grants and other items given to them for the betterment of their lives while also wishing them a happy international women's day.

Setting the tone of the event, the Coordinator of Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, Mrs. Jane Essien noted that the programme was in line with the legacies of Mary Slessor who was not only renowned for the stopping of killing of twins but also for her huge impact on widows, the less-privileged and others in need. She prayed for God to bless the Founder for her initiative and love for widows and the needy. The Coordinator assured participants of the Humaniterian services of the Foundation to different categories of people as well as readiness to partner with individuals and agencies to touch lives.

In their seperate goodwill messages, the Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), AKS Chapter, Mrs. Nsikak Okon, Wives of the Paramount Rulers of Uyo and Ibiono Ibom, appreciated Dr. Edet for her good heart and the Foundation team. They encouraged the women to make good use of the financial assistance given to them.

The event also featured a talk on "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" by Deaconess Mercy OweidigheAbasi. She encouraged the women to invest in what has been given to them.

DR. EDET PRESENTS KEYNOTE ADDRESS DURING THE REMEMBRANCE OF MARY SLESSOR ORGANIZED BY THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF NIGERIA, ABASI IBOM SYNOD ..bags Mary Slessor's Award ..dedicates award to all multiple birth children and parents

It was a day of reflections on Saturday, 13th January 2024 as The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Abasi Ibom Synod celebrated the Remembrance of the Scottish Missionary, Mary Mitchell Slessor. The event took place at the Mary Slessor Chapel, Use Ikot Oku, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, where Mary Slessor died.

The event featured, songs, award presentations and a Keynote address presented by the Founder of Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, Dr. Glory Edet, on the theme, “The Impact and Legacy of Mary Slessor in Nigeria.

The Moderator of Abasi Ibom Synod, Rt. Rev. Umoren Ekpenyong in his address, informed the congregation that the event will be done annually on every 13th January, which was the date Mary Slessor died in 1915 at Use Ikot Oku, Ibiono Ibom, Nigeria, and was taken to Calabar for burial.

Presenting the address, Dr. Edet recounted the sacrifices of the late Scottish Presbyterian Missionary to Nigeria.

The immediate past Dean of Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers in Akwa Ibom State listed the legacies of Mary Slessor, the "white Queen of Okoyong" as she was fondly called, to include, stopping the killing of twins and the banishment of their mothers, promotion of education, improvement of healthcare and sanitation, Nigeria Women's right and empowerment, cultural bridge-building, etc.

She further noted that as a Presbyterian, Mary Slessor was able to conquer herself first and serves as a source of inspiration and offers valuable lessons in courage, compassion, cultural sensitivity, advocacy, perseverance, and faith.

Dr Edet charged Christians to learn lessons from the life of Mary Slessor.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of “Mary Slessor's Award" to Dr. Glory Edet in recognition of her commitment to immortalise the legacies of Mary Slessor through her Foundation,”Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation”.

Also awarded in different categories were, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ibiono Ibom LGA, Dr. Akaninyene Akankpo, the Board of Trustee Chairman of MASLAG, Mrs. Usungurua, etc

In attendance were, the Clerk of the Abasi Ibom Synod, Very Rev. Itoro Johnson, Presbytery Moderators & Clerks, the Mission Coordinator of Akwa Synod Rev. Itohowo Akan Usanga, Mission Coordinator of Abasi Ibom Synod and the Chaplain of Mary Slessor Chapel, Rev. Edet James, among others.

In tune with its aims and objectives, which include providing scholarships to the less privileged students in higher institutions in the state and beyond, the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation (MASLAG) has again empowered less privileged students with financial support for their University education

Presenting the financial support at a brief but colourful event which was held on Tuesday, January 9, at the Foundation’s office, Plot 131, Unit F, Ewet Housing Estate, the Founder/ President of the Foundation, Dr. Glory Edet, eulogized the impacts of the legendary Scottish Missionary to Nigeria, extolling how she stopped the killing of twins, alongside her great impacts to humanity and society. Dr. Edet also stated that the aim of the Foundation was to support the less privileged, including multiple birth children and parents, persons with disabilities, students, youths, women, etc, who are in need within the capacity of the foundation. Among other responsibilities, Dr Edet said, were to restore hope to the hopeless and the oppressed through counselling, skills acquisition, etc.

"We have different programmes in our Foundation. We have paid school fees for over 100 students, given financial grant to widows, empowered young farmers with seedlings and financial support and today we are giving out another grants to students as a way of our support to qualitative education", she said.

She charged the beneficiaries to shun unhealthy competition, obey their parents, take their studies seriously and use the financial support judiciously.

The Coordinator of MASLAG, Mrs. Jane Michael Essien in her welcome remarks took the beneficiaries through the objectives and aims of the foundation, the various life-touching programmes executed by the Foundation and urged them to make good use of the support given to them.

MARY SLESSOR AKAN-GLO FOUNDATION CELEBRATES POSTHUMOUS BIRTHDAY OF MARY MITCHELL SLESSOR ..gives financial support to over 5,000 multiple-birth parents and children

Second December every year would remain evergreen in the hearts of many, but most especially to Twins and other Multiple Birth children. On this date, a Scottish Missionary was born far away Scotland to the family of Robert Slessor, this Missionary was, Mary Mitchell Slessor.

175 Years since the death of this Scottish Missionary, Mary Mitchell Slessor at Use Ikot Oku, present day Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, her legacy lives on through Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation, founded by Dr. Glory Edet with Dr. Alaninyene Okon Akankpo as the Chairman, Board of Trustees.

In a deliberate attempt to Immortalize the legacy and great contributions to humanity and of course the Christlike role played by this great Woman in the lives of twins, twin mothers and other multiple birth. The Foundation today, 2nd December marked Mary Mitchell Slessor's Posthumous Birthday at Ibom Hall in an Auspicious Occasion with the largest crowd of twins and other multiple birth ever.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno who was represented by the Hon Commissioner for Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh spoke glowingly about the commitment of Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation. He was touched by the crowd and encouraged the Foundation to keep up with the legacy of the great Missionary “never again would we have any activity and legacy of Mary slessor relegated to the background". Her Excellency, Pastor Mrs Patience Eno, who was represented by the wife of the Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom State, in her speech,thanked God for the coming of Mary Slessor to Nigeria and opined that, “God created her to come and do her work in Nigeria and she did that excellently well and today, through our able Mother and founder of this Foundation, her legacies will continue in the State".

She also acknowledged the abilities of Dr Glory Edet and lauded her efforts in caring for multiple birth children even as she pledged her continuous support to the foundation.

In her remarks, The president and founder of Mary Slessor-AkanGlo foundation, Dr Glory Edet insisted that her love for twins and other multiple birth children and parents was given a boost by the stories of her grandfather, Chief David (Akankpo) Isonguyo who lived with the legendary missionary Mary Slessor during her time in INI LGA.

She took time out to reel out the achievements of the foundation since it's inception which include; business grants to over 200 poor widows in the state, Scholarship to over 100 indigent students in different higher institutions, Celebration of the Day of the Girl Child, Training/empowering of youths in Agriculture , mobility aids and supports to persons with disabilities and lots More.

The erudite schooler spared no time in confirming her continuous support and commitment to the Foundation and care to people of multiple birth

Furthermore, Dr Offiong Ofor. Hon Commissioner for Agriculture in the State in her goodwill message stated that the good works of Mary Slessor speaks for her. “multiple birth children and their parents are all examples and testimonials of what Mary did. The immortalization of her works by Dr Glory Edet and the foundation is a proof of appreciation for what Mary did".

Also, The Secretary, Paramount Rulers Wives Association said,
"I want to believe that, wherever the soul of Mary slessor is, she's excited about what this foundation has done today".

Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, HSA on Special Projects in his goodwill message appreciated the Foundation for a great job and pledged his continous support.

Rt. Rev. Theophilus Bassey, Moderator, Akwa Synod, Presbyterian Church of Nigeria also extolled the Foundation for celebrating the iconic Missionary to Nigeria.

DR. EDET CELEBRATES WITH AMAIFIOK ON DEDICATION OF TRIPLETS

The President and founder of the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, Dr. Glory Edet, joined the wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno to celebrate with the family of brother and sister Amaifiok EkanemEsang, as they dedicated their set of newly-born triplets at the Church of Christ, Uyo City.

The triplets, comprising one male and two females, recently arrived the family of Amaifiok after years of believing God for the fruit of the womb.

Speaking at the Church service, the Governor's wife, who was represented by the wife of the Secretary to State Government, Dr. Inemesit Uwah thanked God for the safe arrival of their children and appreciated the father for being a wonderful staunch and loyal supporter of Governor Umo Eno.

Pastor Eno paid special tribute to the late Mary Slessor who stopped the killing of multiple birth children in the state and appreciated the Founder of Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation, Dr. Glory Edet for immortalising and sustaining the legacies of the late Scottish missionary.

She further charged the parents to train their children in ways pleasing to God

In he remarks, Dr. Edet, a former Dean of Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers in the state and the Founder of Mary Slessor- Akan Glo Foundation, while thanking God for His faithfulness, encouraged the parents to bring up their children in the ways of the Lord, teach them good morals and imbibe in them beliefs that would stand them out in future. She used the occasion to eulogize the late Scottish Presbyterian missionary to Nigeria, Mary Slessor for stopping the killing of twins and triplets noting that because of the work of the late missionary the future of the triplets is now safe.

"Whenever I see twins and triplets, what comes to my mind is, if God didn't use Mary Slessor to stop the killing of multiple birth children it means all the children and their mothers won't be alive", she said.

"That is why by God’s grace, as the Founder of Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation, we have taken it upon ourselves to sustain the legacies of the great missionary", she added.

She supported the parents and charged individuals and groups to always support multiple birth children and their parents.

The President and Founder of Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation, Dr Glory Edet, earlier today met with some set of twins studying at various higher institutions across the state, particularly students of the University of Uyo.

In an occasion held at the Foundation's office at Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, the former Commissioner for Agriculture briefed the twins students on the life and times of the Scootich Missionary, Mary Slessor, her roles in ending the noxious killing of twins and other exploits, including the building of schools. She explained that the students were the direct beneficiaries of Mary Slessor's gesture as they were today, loved and celebrated as twins due to Mary Slessor's legacy.

The former Dean of Commissioners in Akwa Ibom State used the opportunity to informed the students that Mary Slessor lived, occasionally with her grand parents in Ini LGA. She stressed that the giant strides of the late Missionary motivated her to the establishment of the foundation, which she said has come to stay with its management board ably headed by Dr Akaninyene Akankpo, a sensor Lecturer in the department of physics, University of Uyo.

Dr Edet gave a brief insight on the foundation to have been in existence for about two years. She highlighted the Foundation corporate social responsibility to include sponsorship and payment of fees for students, financial and material aids to the poorest of the poor and the less privilege.

To remain resolute in achieving their academic dreams, the Founder, who herself, a lecturer, charged all the students to extricate themselves from all forms of distractions and negative vices, while taking their studies serious.

She used the occasion to invite all the twins and the general public to the celebration to commemorate the birthday of Late Mary Slessor, slated for 2nd December, 2023 at Ibom Hall.

Responding on behalf of the twins, Dr Utomobong Udo, the immediate past President of Akwa Ibom Medical Students, thanked Dr Edet for using the foundation to touch lives. He expressed confidence that with the Foundation, students needs will be greatly met based on her antecedent in students affairs.

Present at the event were Students leaders including the president of the University of Uyo Medical student Association, the president, Akwa Ibom Medical Students Association, the NAAKISS Worldwide vice president among other students leaders.

MARY SLESSOR-AKANGLO FOUNDATION MARKS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

As the world marks the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child with the theme, "Invest in Girls Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being", the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, has celebrated the importance, power and potential of girl children in the world, while advocating for better opportunities for the girl-child.

Marking the 2023 world Girl Child Day with special children at the Gospel Village, Abak, the founder of Mary SlessorAkan-Glo Foundation, Dr. Glory Edet expressed that the aspiration of the foundation, being to continue with Mary Slessor's humanitarian services, visited the special children home to reinvigorate hope among the girl children at the special children home and charged them to be deligent in all they do while positioning their minds to stay atop in all sectors of human endeavours as they have equal opportunities with their male counterparts.

Dr. Edet who commended the leadership of Gospel Village Special Children Home for caring for the children, charged parents, and guardians to be deliberate in bringing up the girl children in their homes without discrimination, stigmatization, blots and stains. She urged parents and guardians to provide equal access to refined education, reproductive healthcare and gender sensitivity, in tackling the plight of the girl-child.

While presenting food items, cash support and other items to the special children of Gospel Village Special Children Home, Dr. Edet tasked parents and guardians to save their girl children from lack of basic sanitary provisions, including sanitary pads, clean toilet, water, disposable facilities, among others, advocating these anomalies do not situate well for the girl-child.

In their separate remarks, the Matron, Mrs Promise Essien, Dr. Akan Akanmkpo, Prof. Aniekan Ekanem, Mrs Jane Michael Essien, applauded Dr. Edet for choosing Gospel Village Special Children Home to celebrate the 2023 Girl Child Day and the presentation of two semester school fees to Miss Grace Simon who on scholarship, the appointment of Godwin Sampson as the Ambassador of Mary slessor Akan- Glo foundation, UniUyo and the Presentation of cash, sanitary pads and food items to the home.

In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of BOT, Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, Dr. Akaninyene Akankpo noted that the programme was in line with the legacies of Mary Slessor who was not only renowned for the stopping of killing of twins but also for her huge impact on widows, the less-privileged and others in need. He prayed for God to bless the Founder for her initiative and love for widows and the needy. The BOT Chairman assured participants of the Humaniterian services of the Foundation to different category of people , as well as readiness to partner with individuals and agencies to touch lives

In their seperate goodwill messages, the President, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women Forum, Hon. Inibehe Silas, Dcn. Mercy Okokon, Dr. (Mrs.) Victory Ebon, VP, African Women in Leadership (AWLO) and the Secretary, Eket Senatorial District Women Forum, Dr.(Mrs) Ita Effiong appreciated Dr. Edet for her good heart and the Foundation team. They encouraged the women to make good use of the financial assistance given to them.

..distributes seedlings and other supports to vegetable farmers

The Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation has distrubuted free seedlings and other supports to farmers in Akwa Ibom state as part of its activities to mark the 2023 international youth day celebration on the theme “Green Skills for Sustainable Agriculture “

This year's international youth day has as its main theme "Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World" and is marked across the world today, Saturday, August 12, 2023.

Speaking at the event, the President/Founder of the Foundation and former Dean of Akwa Ibom state Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers, Dr. Glory Edet, said that the gesture was a conscious effort to identify with the theme of this year's celebration, but focuses on sustainable agriculture. She added that Green skills in the agricultural sector focuses on sustainable farming practices, agro forestry, efficient management, etc.

"In this Foundation, we will be doing a lot to assist multiple-birth parents and children, the less-privileged, widows, orphans and also train our young ones in different entrepreneural skills but for today, we are keying into this year's international youth day celebration and we are not only going to be training farmers but we are also distributing tomatoes seedlings and hybrid plantain suckers, free-of-charge.

She charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training to improve themselves and maximize their yield.

Also speaking, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor, lauded the initiative and impacts of the former state Agriculture boss and the Foundation. She enjoined the participants to take the training seriously.

In her remarks, the Coordinator of Mary Slessor- AkanGlo Foundation, Mrs. Jane Michael Essien while welcoming all present, stated that we can not have a sustainable society without agriculture, hence the need for our youths and everyone to be involved in agriculture. She added that the Foundation’s theme “Green Skills for Sustainable Agriculture” is taken from the 2023 youth celebration theme, but focus on sustainable agriculture.

In a goodwill message, the representative of AKS Youth in Agriculture, Prince Offiong said, “Dr. Glory Edet didn't have a Foundation when she started saving lives, I am a beneficiary of her magnanimity. When I had a fatal accident which my both legs were fractured it was Dr. Edet who paid for all my bills at Ibom Specialist Hospital and now, I'm okay".

The participating farmers were also trained on how to prepare vegetable nursery, how to plant with efficient management to maximize profit and maintain quality by the Resorce person, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan .

Goodwill messages were given by the Chairman, All Farmers Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Prince Bassey Inwang, Mrs. Benedict Udoekwere, Leader’s of different vegetable farming groups. All appreciated the Foundation for marking the day with the sub theme linked to agriculture, for the tomatoes seedlings, the training and hybrid plantain suckers.

The participants went home with tomatoes seedlings and hybrid plantain suckers.

Not too long after the official launch of the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, the founder and former Dean of Commissioners and Special Advisers, Dr. Glory Edet has left no stone unturned in human capacity development and other life touching programmes, not only beneficial to multiple-birth parents and children, but the less-privileged, widows and students.

The foundation in its magnanimity and in celebration of the 2023 International Youth Day with its theme: Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World and sub theme:
Green Skills For Sustainable Agriculture, gathered selected farmers for a brainstorming, skill acquisition training session with focus on Vegetable and Plantain Production.

Dr. Edet in her remarks, shaded lights on the impacts of Mary Slessor, how she stopped the infanticide of twins, her love for Agriculture and the purpose for which the Foundation was berthed.

"In this foundation, we will be doing a lot to encourage people to assist multiple-birth parents and children, less-privileged and also train our young ones in different Skills of endeavour" She said.

She added that the International Youth Day which is celebrated globally provides an opportunity to impact on the youths and prepare them for a better future.

"To mark this year's International Youth Day celebration we will not only train framers but will distribute tomatoes seedlings and Plantain suckers to further encourage a sustainable agriculture". She added

The former Dean of Commissioners and Special Advisers charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training and maximise the seedlings distributed.

The Coordinator of the Foundation, Mrs. Jane Mike while welcoming participants encouraged them make good use of the training and be worthy ambassadors.

Also speaking, the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor while lauding the initiative and impacts of the former Agric Boss during her time at the A'Ibom Ministry of Agriculture encouraged the participants to take the training important and make the most of it.

He called on all to support the foundation which according to him, was established to save lives.

The event also featured a lecture on the theme, Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World by Mr. Emmanuel Akpan who served as resource person.
