URGENT CONCERN REGARDING INCIDENT AT NASARAWA STATE UNIVERSITY KEFFI (NSUK)

Dear Nasarawa state Government,

I am writing on behalf of the entire executives and members of the Nasarawa State Youth Forum for Advocacy (NYFA) to express our deep concern regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred during the distribution of palliatives at Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK).

The reports of chaos and disorder during the distribution process are deeply troubling and highlight the urgent need for measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens, especially during times of crisis. It is disheartening to see such incidents unfold, especially when the intention is to provide support and relief to those in need.

We urge the Government of Nasarawa State to take necessary measures to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and to implement strategies to prevent similar occurrences in the future. It is essential to prioritize the safety and security of all individuals involved in relief efforts, as well as to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency in distribution processes.

We stand ready to support and collaborate with the government in addressing these challenges and finding sustainable solutions that promote the welfare of our community. Together, we can work towards creating a safer and more equitable environment for all residents of Nasarawa State.

NPC Reiterates Commitment To Conduct Nigeria's First Digital Census

The National Population Commission (NPC) has reiterated its commitment to conduct Nigeria's first digital census that will meet “international standards and provide evidence-based data for national planning and sustainable development”.

Mallam Nasir Isa Kwara, the commission's Executive Chairman gave the assurance on Monday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola at his office in Abuja.

In a statement issued through the commission page shortly after the visit, he said it was to discuss possible areas of collaboration and support, especially the housing component of the census.

“The Commission’s Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) data has information on all buildings and their geo-coordinates in Nigeria, which the Ministry of Works and Housing and other agencies can use for development planning,” the statement reads further.

President Buhari had postponed this year's population and housing census earlier scheduled for May 3-7 to a date to be determined by the incoming administration of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Karu Community Protests ‘Five-Year’ Erratic Power Supply

Residents of the Wazobia community in Mararaba, Karu Local Governnent Area of Nasarawa State, have protested five years of power outage.

The community chairman, Ifeanyi Alamaujo, led other residents in a protest to the Mararaba area office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

Speaking during the protest on Friday, Alamuaujo said residents of the community are deprived of power supply despite paying for it.

“We marched to the AEDC Mararaba area office because we are paying for electricity but we don’t get service,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“Sometimes, we get supply for only ten minutes. We came here to discuss with the management to know why we don’t get power supply. It has been five years. It is too much.”

While addressing the protesters, Aluko Temidayo, manager of Mararaba AEDC office, promised to improve the power supply to the community.

“Like I promised, we will do the needful to make everyone happy. We cannot be 100 per cent perfect because of our system,” Temidayo said.

“We will do something that at the end of the day, you will see changes.

“The stage we are in now is a general problem. it is not your community alone but we will do our best to make our customers happy.

“If our customers are not happy, we too are not happy too because you pay our salaries. Please bear with us.” (NAN).
