I TOOK MY HUSBAND TO THE MORTUARY BECAUSE OF HIS ALCOHOLISM

My husband was a drunkard, every time I was called to go and take him from the gutters when he was drunk. Sometimes I find him in a coma, my family asked me to leave him but I didn't want because I was hoping he will change.

At one point, I was tired, I couldn't take it any longer, and I decided to change it some other way. One day I was called to pick him up and I went, I carried him straight to the morgue. I negotiated with the mortuary man to lay him on the ground among the corpses. Two hours later my husband woke up and began by begging the mortuary man not to put him in the fridge that he is not dead. The mortuary man started to whip him hard saying "you corpses you come do witchcraft here, go lie down there". My husband begged so much, after a moment of caning, the mortuary man let him out. He came back home and from that day he has never gone near anything called alcohol.

17-yr-old boy allegedly drugs, rapes 14-yr-old girl in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Pelumi Oloyede-Bello, 17, for allegedly drugging and defiling a 14-year-old girl in Ejigbo area of the state.

According to reports, the suspect, who works for an electricity distribution company, had gone to install prepaid meters for some residents of Akinwunmi Street, Ile-Epo area of Ejigbo, when he met the victim who was trying to recharge her parent’s prepaid meter.

It was gathered that suspect offered to assist her but ended up taking her to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Okota branch where the recharge was done.

However, on their way back, he reportedly took the girl to a hotel at Jakande gate, where he allegedly drugged her drink and r***d her.

“I offered to go and recharge their meter but her grandmother asked her to follow me. On our way back, I bought her a bottle of soft drink. But before giving it to her, I went to the hotel where I dropped 200 milligrams of tramadol inside. I took her to the hotel where I paid N2,500 and had s*x with her.

She slept for too long because of the drug and by the time she woke up, it was late. When she got home, they asked what kept her long and in the process beat her to extract the truth from her. That was how she opened up.

I have never committed such a crime in my life. This is the first time. I used tramadol to sleep because of the noise of the power generating sets in my compound every night. My intention was never to end up in this type of trouble.

I dropped out of school two years ago because my mother, a widow, didn’t have money to pay for my WASSCE. I started installing pre-paid meters and was paid N1,000 commission. I have been saving the money to enroll for the WASSCE. My mother is working as a maid to keep the family going,” he said.

Spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest.

Appalled by the wholesale disregard for its guidelines on the relaxation of the five-week lockdown of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States, the federal government raised the alarm about a potential spike in the spread of COVID-19 yesterday, warning that if that happens it would have no choice than to shut down the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari had caved in to pressure last Monday, relaxing the lockdown effective from yesterday but had mandated the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to issue guidelines on the general conduct of citizens during phased reopening of the economy and social life.

The basic rules of mask-wearing and physical distancing were routinely disobeyed yesterday by many Nigerians who hit the roads of Abuja and Lagos in frenzied efforts to catch up with lost income-earning activities that had been locked down for weeks.

The crowds massed at the bus stops and bank branches, raising concerns about the acceleration of community transmission of the virus.

Incidentally, the tally of confirmed cases of the virus rose by 245 yesterday, the highest daily rise since the February 27 index case, bringing the tally to 2,802 with 93 deaths and 417 persons discharged across 34 states.

The new cases were reported from 16 states, including Lagos 76, K
