Malawi Police Spokesperson for the North, Maurice Chapola has confirmed that Joseph Maganga who was driving a Sososo bus from Mzuzu to Karonga has been killed in a road accident that occurred at Dunduzu in Mzuzu, around noon on Sunday.

Chapola told us that 16 other passengers have sustained various degrees of injuries and are receiving medical treatment at the Mzuzu Central Hospital.

Police say they suspect that the driver of a Tipper that was coming from the opposite direction lost control of the vehicle and it collided with the sososo bus.

The bus had 46 passengers on board.

His close associate Wapona Kita and executive secretary for Malawi Law Society Gabriel Chembezi confirmed to Nation Online a short while ago.

The story according to Jetu's daughter Ana

Until now Ana Banda, Jetu's only surviving child had been unknown.

All what was known was that she has been away from home and her family for 14 years. Nothing more.

But in an interview today, Ana said she left the country in an attempt to fend for her mother and four children, one of them being Emu Dee, the brains behind Jetu's brand.

"Emu Dee is my second born child. I have been responsible for his education from primary all the way to college," said Ana.

Apart from ensuring her children attain education, Ana says she also built her mother a house in Mchinji, where she was based until last year when her husband died and the one they are currently staying in Bangwe.

She said: "After my father died I advised Emu Dee to get his grandmother under his custody just minimise her stress."

On Friday Ana, her mother and son reunited after 14 years, and she said she is grateful to everyone who has made this possible.

"Looking at her age, her story is unbelievable. I think it will help demystifying some myths which always relate old people to witchcraft," she said.

Ana is Jetu's only surviving child out of the nine children she had.

Teacher Arrested for having s*x with 16 years old pupil

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested a 30 year old teacher at Mulirankhwali primary school identified as John Mapoko for allegedly having s*x with a 16 year old pupil.

According to Cosmas Kagulo Public Relations officer for Chiradzulu Police, the incident occurred in Traditional Authority Nkalo in the district.

Investigations have revealed that last year, the suspect inticed the victim into a s*xual relationship but it was never known to anyone.

On February 22, 2024 at evening hours Wellington Ntikhe who is a brother to the victim, saw both the victim and the suspect coming out of the garden that is almost 70 metres away from their house.

The two parted ways each to their home. Wellington narrated the whole story to the victim’s mother who immediately asked the victim and admitted to have had s*xual in*******se with the suspect.

The matter was brought to the attention of Thuchira Police that referred the victim to Nkalo health center where results came out positive.

The suspect admitted to have slept with the victim once in their love affair. The suspect has been formally charged accordingly and is to appear before court.

Mapoko hails from Chizula Village Traditional Authority Nkalo in the same district.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC has noted with concern the communication from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to proceed with the second leg of the Airtel Top 8 fixture against Silver Strikers FC on Wednesday, 6th December, 2023 at Kamuzu Stadium whilst the dispute is still unresolved.

The development comes on the back of our official intent to appeal the ruling by the FAM Disciplinary Committee and our request to have a motivated determination in terms of applicable rules. It is in our considered view that the fate of the 1st leg match shall be determined by the FAM Appeals Committee and therefore pending hearing and determination of our forthcoming appeal, the second leg must be postponed.

We appreciate the action by the Disciplinary Committee which twice duly and correctly directed postponement of the second leg fixture in order to avoid rendering the pending appeal nugatory if successful.

Wanderers FC is therefore urging the FAM Competitions Committee to refrain from purposely frustrating our Club through unwarranted and senseless actions whilst we pursue available legal remedies and our rights to appeal within the football structures.

We bear the understanding that this matter is now outside the jurisdiction of the Competition Committee since it is now being handled by the judicial bodies of FAM.

In the spirit of fair play and rationality, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC demands that FAM should postpone the 2nd leg fixture unless and until our pending appeal has been disposed of by the Appeals Committee, failing which the Club will not honour the second leg fixture.

We are making fresh calls for fair play to reign in Malawi's football.

The Board of Directors of Mighty Wanderers has resolved to appeal the decision by Football Association of Malawi's Disciplinary Committee in regards to their Airtel Top 8 game against Silver Strikers.

Through a statement released signed by Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira, the Board observed that the determination was not made in the spirit of fair play having noted that the cause of the matter is the bad decision by the referee.

"The Board has resolved to appeal and have the game against Silver Strikers postponed until the matter is held and resolved," Mpinganjira said.

According to Mpinganjira in the statement, the board is dismayed with the fact that both FAM's Competitions and FAM's Disciplinary Committees do not take cognisance that the referee is the root cause of the challenges at hand.

"Wanderers is looking at the matter at hand as a landmark case which requires to be followed to the end in order to ensure that football officiation in Malawi and the football world as a whole be improved in order to ensure that the best team should carry the day at all times," added the statement.

"The era of bullying by football authorities in the name of rules and regulations must come to a halt because football is beautiful and fair play must be upheld at all cost.

Football Association of Malawi is mourning with the National Youth Football Committe, Northern Region Youth Football Committee following the death of Daniel Kapira, who until his death yesterday was a player for MK Academy in the Mzuzu Nthanda U14 League.

Kapira died following an unfortunate incident involving an Escom live wire. Daniel, along with his two companions, was on his way to Ching'ambo Primary School to inquire about the results of the Standard 8 MANEB examinations.

Tragically, while returning, they unknowingly approached an area with an Escom pole, where Daniel and one of his friends accidentally came into contact with the live wire, resulting in a fatal electric shock.

Despite immediate efforts, Daniel could not be revived and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

During this difficult time, We extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire bereaved family. May the Lord's solace provide them strength and comfort in coping with this tragic loss.
