The Triumph of Liberian Justice
——————————————————————————
Yesterday, September 25, 2024 will go down in the annals of Liberian jurisprudence as one of the finest days in the administration of independent and transparent justice: a judge rebuked attempts by a sitting Liberian Government to weaponize and bastardize the judiciary to achieve political glory at the expense of former officials of Government. It is a day that will rest in eternal fame!

Since the witch-hunt against my person, I have inforned Liberians via this very social media space that I was coming to face my accusers and vindicate my name. Several persons advised against my coming, arguing that the intention of the UP-Government was to merely have me paraded unjustly in handcuffs as some “posterboy’ for its already doomed ‘fight against corruption.’

As fearless as I am and knowing I am innocent of the bogus charges, I took in all the advice but countered that there was no way or no chance that I would not return to Liberia, even at the cost of my unjust and politically-motivated imprisonment. Who and what would I be if I fled from my country? I had left Liberia since January 23, 2024 and was in no way a fugitive from justice. After the politically manipulated indictment I had to ensure I return under the correct legal circumstances !

There were those who argued that it is within a judge’s rights to deny even a bond worth a billion United States dollars, to which I gladly responded “then that would be my fate and I must prepare to face and accept it.”

But deep down in the wellsprings of my soul, I believe there had to be men and women who would stand for the upright enforcement of the law as it is written, who could resist the threats, blandishments, or emoluments from a sitting Government sworn to pervert Liberian law as it has already copiously done in service of demonizing political opponents for political glory!

And so yesterday as the judge dictated his ruling that I was entitled to bail under our laws and constitution, that I am now under the jurisprudence of the court and am a free citizen protectedby bail from illegal arrests or harassment, tears welled in my eyes. I knew I could somewhat trust our judiciary system: I didn’t know it was going to be this overwhelming!

In closing, let me express thanks to the thousands who have been saying their prayers for me and showing me their support. To my darling prayer warrior wife and her legions of pastors, to family, friends, partisans, colleagues, supporters and well wishers I am profoundly grateful.

To those who have been dying just to see me unjustly in handcuffs let me say to you you do not know, neither do you understand the democratic Liberia we now live in. In my radio appearances in the coming days I will expound on this rich democratic tradition we now enjoy, which is principally sustained by a few men and women endowed with the powers and privileges to do right by the people!

May God bless our motherland and may we all work justly for a better Liberia!

President Boakai Consoles the Family of Late Centenarian Alhaji Amadu Sheriff

New York, USA– His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. today expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and community of the late Alhaji Amadu Sheriff, a revered elder and prominent Liberian citizen, who passed away this morning at his Chocolate City Residence in Monrovia.

Alhaji Sheriff, who lived beyond 100 years, served Liberia in numerous capacities throughout his lifetime, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, leadership, and devotion to his country and community.

Recently, in recognition of his lifetime of service, Alhaji Sheriff was honored by President Boakai with one of the nation's highest distinctions, the Humane Order of African Redemption, at the rank of Knight Grand Commander.

In a compassionate telephone conversation with former Finance Minister Alhaji Lusinee F. Kamara, Sr., a distinguished family and community leader, President Boakai conveyed a message of deep sympathy and solace to the bereaved family. He praised the late Alhaji Sheriff as a fine and noble citizen whose life positively impacted those around him and the entire nation.

“Alhaji Amadu Sheriff was a beacon of wisdom and grace,” President Boakai said. “His contributions to his fellow citizens, his community, his county, his religion, and the Republic of Liberia will forever be remembered. His departure marks a profound loss for our nation, but we take comfort in the lasting legacy he leaves behind.”

President Boakai reminded the family that this moment of grief, though painful, is part of the divine will of the Almighty Allah. He urged them to find strength and solace in their faith, acknowledging that Allah, in His infinite wisdom, knows what is best.

“Our hearts are with you,” the President added. “This is the will of our Common Creator, the Almighty Allah, who gives and takes according to His divine plan. I encourage you to keep your faith strong and to trust in His wisdom.”

President Boakai assured the family that he would visit and personally extend his condolences upon his return to the country. He emphasized that the entire nation shares in their grief and stands in solidarity with them during this time of loss.

The Committee on Post and Telecommunications of the Honorable House of Representatives, has requested the Management of DStv Liberia, to uphold the promotion of Liberian Cultural Heritage as enshrined in article 5b of 1986 the Liberian Constitution.

A statement issued on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, by the House’s Press Bureau, says the decision was reached following the appearance of DStv before the committee.

DStv Liberia was recently citied to provide caused why it should not be held in contempt to not honor previous citations in order to address other information surrounding their operations in Liberia.

Responding to the citation, DStv Liberia CEO, Mr. Simeon Freeman, apologized to the committee for such action.

Mr. Freeman also wants the Country explore other avenues that will lead to the promotion of Liberian Cultural Heritage on DStv platform.

According to him, the previous Liberia Broadcasting System Management headed by Mrs. Estelle Liberty- Kermoh, initiated the inclusion of LNTV on the platform but to no avail due to its non-digitalization.

The DStv CEO added that it is also cost intensive and if such is addressed, LNTV can be streamed by DStv.

He then highlighted the low quality of Liberian movies to meet the standards.

However, the HOR Post and Telecommunication Chair, Representative Ivar Jones, quotes LBS current Management headed by Eugene Fahngon, as saying LNTV has gone digital.

Representative Jones said the LBS Management, confirmed the airing of LNTV programs on SATCOM due to its digitalization.

The Committee Chair stated that the airing of LNTV programs on DStv, will allow diaspora Liberians among others to know and understand the Liberian Cultural heritage.

The Chair spoke about revenue leakages, adding that some customers in Liberia are subscribing with DStv but recharging from Nigeria because of the charges.

The committee has since requested the management of DStv Liberia to provide it, the list of its Social corporate responsibilities beneficiaries.

Additionally, the Committee is expected to pay DStv Liberia’s Office a working visit on Friday, September 27, 2024, at its premises in order to have a fair appreciation of its infrastructure.

House speaker Koffa to Lead Delegation for US to Attend Major Conventions

Press Statement

Capitol Building, Monrovia: The Speaker of the 55th House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, is set to lead a legislative delegation to the United States of America beginning September 27 to October 12, 2024.

This travel will include participation in three major events: the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) 50th Anniversary, the Grand Kru County Development Association Convention, and the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) Annual Convention.

The delegation will arrive in the U.S. on Thursday, ahead of ULAA’s 50th Anniversary and Inauguration Program, where Speaker Koffa will serve as the Special Guest Speaker.

The ULAA celebrations, running from September 27 to September 29, will feature various activities, including an Anniversary and Honoring Program, a General Assembly, an Inaugural Gala, and a Beach Party.

Notably, Speaker Koffa played a pivotal role in advocating for the Dual Citizenship Bill during Liberia’s 54th Legislature, when he chaired the Judiciary Committee. Upon becoming Deputy Speaker in 2021, he passed the sponsorship of the bill to Rep. Acarous Gray and Sen. Darius Dillon.

Following the ULAA events, Speaker Koffa will serve as Guest Speaker at the Grand Kru County Development Association Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from October 4 to October 6, 2024. The convention, themed “Driving Sustainable Development and Progress in Grand Kru County,” will focus on the region’s economic and social growth. Grand Kru County, with a population of about 109,000, remains one of Liberia’s most impoverished and underdeveloped areas, represented by just two electoral districts.

On October 12, Speaker Koffa will address the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) Annual Convention and Benefit Banquet, to be held at St. Cyprian Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia.

As the Keynote Speaker, he will speak on the theme “Addressing Liberia’s Fragility Through War Crimes Accountability and Social and Economic Development.” Cllr. Koffa has been a strong advocate for war victims and has championed the establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia.

Under his leadership, the House of Representatives passed the War and Economic Crimes Court Act during the 55th Legislature.

The ALJA Convention is expected to bring together international journalists of Liberian descent, alongside ALJA members in the U.S., for discussions centered on Liberia’s future.

During Speaker Koffa’s U.S. visit, his office in Monrovia will remain fully operational, with the Chief of Staff and other members of his team available to the public and constituents of District #2, Grand Kru County, from Monday to Friday.

Samuel Tweah granted 8 USD million bail.

Samuel D. Tweah Jr., Liberia’s former Finance Minister, surrendered to Criminal Court ‘C’ on Tuesday morning after arriving in the country Monday night.

Tweah, along with ex-National Security Advisor Jefferson Karmoh and former Solicitor General Cllr. Nyanti Tuan, faces multiple charges, including economic sabotage, fraud, and criminal conspiracy. Following his surrender, the court granted Tweah an $8 million bail, setting his trial for November 12.

These indictments stem from an investigation by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) which has accused the former officials of orchestrating a scheme that diverted over L$1 billion and US$500,000 from the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA). These funds, meant for national security and financial oversight, reportedly disappeared under dubious circumstances between September 8 and 21, 2023.

The LACC’s investigations revealed that Tweah allegedly authorized these hefty transfers without proper approval from Liberia’s National Joint Security or the National Security Council. The LACC stated that there was no documented need or request for these funds, raising questions about the legality of the transactions.

Once transferred, the funds quickly vanished with withdrawals made by D. Moses P. Cooper, then Acting Financial Controller of the FIA. According to court documents, nearly all the transferred funds were withdrawn in just over a month, leaving a mere L$7,500 in the account.

“National Monument of Deception”, CDC’s Secretary General Jefferson Koijee describes Senator Dillon.

Jefferson Koijee, Secretary General of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has criticized Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, labeling him a “national monument of deception.”

Koijee accused Dillon of betraying the people of Montserrado County by supporting the passage of a recast budget without adequate representation for his constituents.

Koijee highlighted that Dillon’s actions undermine the transparency and accountability the Unity Party campaigned on. He claimed that Dillon, who has positioned himself as "Mr. Light," has failed to advocate for essential appropriations and has engaged in questionable transactions as Chair of the Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee.

In a social media post, Koijee pointed out significant budgetary alterations and alleged that Dillon has normalized business-class travel for official trips.

He urged Liberians to reject Dillon's rhetoric, framing him as a disappointment to those who supported him. Dillon has not yet responded to these allegations.

Update!

Former Liberian Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah has returned to Liberia to face his criminal indictment. Sources at the Roberts International Airport confirmed to Spoon TV that the former government official arrived in the country at 1:00 am this morning. Our sources confirmed that Tweah was one of the passengers who arrived in Liberia this morning on an Air Peace flight.

The Liberian government has indicted Tweah and several others for alleged corruption that took place during the Weah-Taylor administration. The government is expected to serve Tweah with his indictment in the coming hours or days.

The Liberian government has recently requested a red alert through Interpol to be placed on Samuel Tweah. This means he could be arrested on foreign soil. Tweah has been a US-sanctioned individual for over 3 years.

Liberty Party National Executive Committee
Monrovia, Liberia

September 24, 2024
RE: Resignation Letter of Musa Hassan Bility – Liberty Party National Chairman

Dear Fellow EC Members:

Greetings, and I hope this letter meets you all in good health. It is with a heavy heart that I today announce my resignation as National Chairman of the Liberty Party (LP) and withdraw my membership from LP. The last three and a half years have been the most satisfying, complex, and challenging adventure of my political career. It has been an incredible privilege to lead the LP National Executive Committee (NEC), and I have been blessed to have been a part of a group of people bound together by a commitment to build a political institution rooted in the principles of inclusive decision-making, democracy, and the rule of law.

During this period, we have experienced great highs, most notably the amendments to the LP Constitution that brought about an environment of inclusive and consultative decision-making and working together to form a part of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) during the just-ended 2023 Presidential and General Elections. We have also weathered numerous storms because of opposition to these very changes we brought about to the Constitution and our decision to support opposition presidential candidate, Mr. Alexander Cummings, in the 2023 elections.
In an effort to recalibrate, LP recently embarked on an important phase of reconciliation, a necessary process given what the Party has been through over the past three years. As with any reconciliation process, certain concessions had to be made by all sides at the table. However, I also believe that it is equally as important, in a political environment such as ours, characterized by competing definitions of nationalism and patriotism, that the LP’s vision, values, and actions reflect leadership qualities critical to our nation’s future growth and development. As we go through the reconciliation process, and in my consultations with the broader Party membership, it has become abundantly clear that some of the concessions being sought to achieve reconciliation are fundamentally against my core belief of what is needed to continue to build a vibrant political institution and prepare for national leadership and I cannot, in good conscience, endorse the new direction that is being proposed. Albeit, standing firm in my belief in democratic systems, I also cannot and will not allow my personal beliefs to stand in the way of the reconciliation process. Consequently, faced with this juxtaposing dichotomy, it has become necessary to hand over the baton to those who champion this new direction and allow them the space to chart the future course of Lp.
The LP is the first and only Political Party that I have been a member of. I am extremely proud of the changes we have been able to bring about in the Party over the past three years, albeit the tenuous road we had to travel to get there. Although I have affiliated with members of other political parties in Liberia in the past, I never sought or took membership in any political party because their vision for Liberia and expression of core values did not align with mine. My decision to join the LP came after several conversations and interactions with LP’s Founder and Vision Bearer, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, about his hopes and dreams for the Party, which aligned with mine. At this juncture, I am of the belief that my continued contributions to charting a pathway to the Liberia we all aspire to have will be more effectively carried out through different and non-traditional mediums. I still hold the same opinion about the political parties within our current dispensation, and therefore, I will not seek or take membership in any of them. Rather, I will continue my political journey through the office I now hold as Representative of Nimba County, District 7, and other political and developmental action vehicles.

I sincerely wish the LP well in these endeavors. Thank you again to the leadership and broader LP family for the support during my tenure as National Chairman.

Regards,

Signed: ____________________

Liberia National Police Launches Traffic Patrol in Margibi County

On September 24, 2024, the Liberia National Police (LNP) officially launched a traffic patrol initiative aimed at enhancing road safety in Liberia. The ceremony took place in Kakata, Margibi County, and was attended by key officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations Nelson Freeman, Chief of Highway Patrol Wadell Kwabo, and Chief of Public Safety and Deputy Police Commander Freed Gaye.

The launch marks a significant development in road safety efforts, with the patrol set to operate primarily in Margibi County.

The event gathered various stakeholders, including the Margibi Police Commander, traffic inspectors, drivers, and community members, all eager to witness this historic moment.

During the launch, Chief of Highway Patrol Wadell Kwabo emphasized the initiative's objective: to protect citizens and ensure the safety of drivers and passengers on the roads. He highlighted the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to mitigate accidents and enhance overall safety.

Deputy Inspector General Nelson Freeman further stressed the necessity of the traffic patrol. He pointed out alarming statistics indicating that more fatalities occur on highways due to car accidents than in hospitals. Freeman noted that the LNP's leadership is committed to revitalizing traffic enforcement to address these issues. He assured the public that the patrol's purpose is not to exploit drivers but to uphold professional standards and ensure safety on the roads.

Margibi Police Commander Patrick Kormaze expressed gratitude to the LNP central office for implementing this much-needed initiative, noting that a structured traffic patrol had not been established in over a decade. He acknowledged the support of his colleagues in Kakata and their dedication to enhancing public safety.

The launch of the traffic patrol is expected to be a turning point in improving road safety and reducing accidents in Liberia, fostering a culture of compliance with traffic laws among citizens.

For immediate release
September 24, 2024.

Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) Call for Immediate Investigation into the Purchase of a Luxury Vehicle by Mr. Amin Modad; says public corruption must stop immediately.

The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) urgently call on the Government of Liberia, specifically His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai, to commission an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purchase of a 2024 Chevy Suburban by Mr. Amin Modad, reportedly valued at over $100,000.

The EFFL is deeply concerned by the acquisition of this high-priced luxury vehicle by Mr. Modad, especially given the current economic hardships faced by ordinary Liberians. In the spirit of transparency and accountability, the EFFL emphasizes the importance of ensuring that public figures uphold the highest standards of financial integrity.

This acquisition raises serious questions, and the EFFL condemns the ongoing abuse of power and influence within certain leadership circles. The sacrifices and collective struggles of the Liberian people cannot continue to be manipulated for personal gain by individuals in positions of influence.

The EFFL stands firm in its mission to safeguard the interests of all Liberians. The country's long journey toward freedom, justice, and equity must not be undermined by a few who prioritize their personal benefits over the welfare of the majority.

We categorically oppose this trend of selfish leadership and reaffirm our commitment to standing with the people of Liberia in their fight for a fair and just society. To maintain public confidence in our institutions, the EFFL calls on President Boakai to swiftly establish a committee to investigate the source of funding for this purchase.

The investigation must determine whether public resources or questionable financial practices were involved. The people of Liberia deserve transparency, and this investigation is essential to ensure that justice and equality prevail. The EFFL also calls on the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to begin an immediate investigation into this situation and urges the National Legislature and the Executive to proceed with the immediate cancellation of the Metech contract for various violations.

We supported this government to fight against the misuse of public funds and not to repeat the mistakes of the past. It is becoming clear that certain officials within the Executive are complacent in the misuse of power and view the people's revolution that brought President Boakai to power as an opportunity for grandstanding and personal gain.

While we remain fully committed to supporting this president, he must now hold his officials accountable. Failure to do so would leave the President politically, legally, and morally powerless to hold previous government officials accountable. Once it's established through investigation that he and others are guilty, they should be prosecuted to avoid the narrative of selective justice in the ongoing fight against corruption.
